Consecutive accidents, Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital suspended surgery
Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital was asked to immediately stop cosmetic surgery because it did not ensure patient safety conditions.
According to information from the authorities, at this cosmetic facility, there have been two consecutive cases of complications after cosmetic surgery.
The first case is, Ms. LTL (32 years old, in Tay Ninh) came to Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital for abdominal liposuction and excess skin removal surgery. On July 4, 2024, she came to the facility for examination and at 2:35 p.m., the patient was anesthetized with endotracheal anesthesia and underwent total abdominal liposuction and total abdominal contouring surgery performed by Dr. D.NM.
At 9:00 p.m. on July 4, the patient complained of fatigue and difficulty breathing and was monitored, cared for, and treated by the hospital team.
At 2:00 p.m. on July 5, the hospital consulted and agreed on the diagnosis of respiratory failure, acute pulmonary alveolar-capillary injury (ARDS) suspected to be due to fat embolism/postoperative day 1 of abdominal liposuction and excess skin removal.
The patient was transferred to Cho Ray Hospital at 3:00 p.m. on July 5, 2024 in a conscious state, pulse 105 beats/minute, blood pressure 12/70 mmHg, Sp02 99% with oxygen mask 10 liters/minute. After being treated at the Emergency Resuscitation Department, the patient recovered and was discharged from the hospital.

The second case is patient NTNT (born in 1984) who had complications after cosmetic surgery here.
Accordingly, on August 27, 2024, the Department of Health Inspectorate received Report No. 2379/BVCR-KHTH of Cho Ray Hospital on the above case.
The patient was consulted by Cho Ray Hospital interdisciplinary and was admitted to the intensive care unit with a diagnosis of respiratory failure - collapsed right upper lobe of lung/postoperative day 1 of liposuction and abdominoplasty, liposuction of both arms - hypertension - diabetes - dyslipidemia.
The patient was prescribed a ventilator, antibiotics, intravenous fluids, packed red blood cell transfusions, platelets, fresh frozen plasma, etc. The patient is currently being monitored and treated at Cho Ray Hospital.
Previously, on August 24, 2024, patient NTNT came to Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital for examination and consultation to perform liposuction, abdominoplasty, back liposuction, and arm liposuction.
On August 25, 2024, the surgery was performed by Dr. TNG with a team of anesthesiologists, anesthesiologists and nurses.
The staff participating in the surgery are registered to practice medicine at Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital.
At 6:00 a.m. on August 26, 2024, the patient had mild difficulty breathing and then increased difficulty breathing. The hospital performed endotracheal intubation, used a resuscitation balloon, and transferred the patient to Cho Ray Hospital at 11:30 a.m. the same day.
After two cosmetic surgery accidents occurred at this facility, the Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health signed Decision No. 4525/QD-SYT on establishing a surprise inspection team for Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital at 84A Ba Huyen Thanh Quan, Ward 9, District 3, Ho Chi Minh City.
The Department Director requested the Delegation to focus on inspecting the assurance of mandatory conditions as prescribed for patient safety in surgical activities at this hospital, the inspection period is 15 days.
Experts in the fields of surgery, cosmetic surgery, anesthesia - resuscitation, emergency resuscitation and infection control from specialized and general hospitals at the city's end-line were invited by the Department of Health to join the inspection team.
On the first working day, the Delegation noted that Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital currently does not meet all operating conditions after being licensed by the Ministry of Health, including professional requirements to ensure patient safety during cosmetic surgery.
In the immediate future, the Inspection Team of the Department of Health requires the Hospital to temporarily suspend cosmetic surgery activities from August 28, 2024, and requires the Hospital to review and promptly correct all limitations and shortcomings according to the comments of the Inspection Team's experts.
The Department of Health will promptly report to the Department of Medical Examination and Treatment Management about the failure to ensure the necessary conditions for patient safety related to cosmetic surgery at Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital and the need to temporarily suspend surgical and procedural activities at this hospital.
Upon completion of the inspection, the Department of Health will officially report to the Ministry of Health on the errors that led to the failure to ensure patient safety and recommend that the Ministry of Health re-evaluate the conditions for cosmetic surgery at Paris Cosmetic Dentistry Hospital before allowing the hospital to perform surgery again.
Previously, in July 2024, the Department of Health Inspectorate issued a decision to fine Paris Hospital of Odonto-Stomatology and Aesthetics for the violations of "Practitioners not registering to practice medical examination and treatment according to the provisions of law" and "Not implementing the reporting regime on medical examination and treatment activities according to the provisions of law".
At the time of inspection, a doctor of this hospital was also punished by the Health Department Inspectorate for "Making a medical record but not clearly and fully stating the items in the medical record according to the form prescribed by law" with the additional penalty of having his medical practice certificate revoked for 2 months.
