On September 18, Secretary General of the Arab League (AL) Ahmed Aboul-Gheit called on the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) to fully exercise its responsibilities and respond to threats from Israel to ensure security and peace in the region, especially after the series of pager explosions in Lebanon.

The call came just hours after Israel attacked Lebanon's communications infrastructure.
Accordingly, Mr. Aboul-Gheit condemned Israel's attacks and warned of the consequences of escalating tensions for Lebanon and its people.
The Secretary General of the Arab League stressed that Israel seems to intend to expand the scope of the conflict on the southern front of Lebanon, causing instability and danger to the entire region.
In addition, Mr. Aboul-Gheit also expressed his firm support for Lebanon and its government.
Earlier on September 17, a series of walkie-talkies and pagers exploded across Lebanon, killing dozens of people and injuring thousands of others, including many members of the Hezbollah movement.
The explosions came just hours after Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu announced his intention to broaden the scope of the conflict, focusing on the Hezbollah force in Lebanon located along Israel's northern border.
The attacks also come at a time of heightened tensions along the Lebanon-Israel border.
Over the past 11 months, Hezbollah forces in Lebanon and the Israeli army have had continuous clashes, especially as the conflict in the Gaza Strip continues to escalate.
So far, the clashes have left hundreds dead on both sides and tens of thousands displaced.
