According to Anadolu news agency, early on November 24, Israeli warplanes attacked a military post in the town of Al-Amiriya in southern Lebanon, killing one soldier and injuring 18 others.
In a statement, Mr. Mikati said: "Israel is sending messages rejecting a political solution. As soon as it turned its back on the US and French call for a ceasefire in September 2024, it continued to carry out bloody attacks on Lebanon. It blatantly rejected the solution being discussed."
The Lebanese interim prime minister also called on countries around the world and relevant international organizations to assume their responsibilities on this issue."
Mikati's comments come amid growing concerns that the Israeli military is trying to push its attacks westward toward the coastal town of Al-Bayada, located between the cities of Tyre and Naqoura. Israeli forces are also trying to encircle the South Litani area from both sides.
In another development, the Lebanese Ministry of Education announced on the same day that the country has decided to suspend in-person classes in the Beirut area until the end of December 2024, due to security concerns after a series of recent Israeli airstrikes.
Regarding the Israel-Hezbollah conflict, on the same day, Sputnik news agency quoted US President's Special Envoy to the Middle East Amos Hochstein warning Israel that if the country does not support the ceasefire agreement with Lebanon in the coming days, he will stop mediating in the negotiations.
On November 19, Special Envoy Hochstein arrived in Beirut on an official visit to hear the positions of Lebanon and Hezbollah on the points of the US-proposed ceasefire agreement with Israel.
Some progress has been made in talks with Lebanese Parliament Speaker Nabih Berri, according to Mr. Hochstein.
Axios (USA) quoted a source saying that Israel is "getting closer" to accepting a ceasefire agreement with Lebanon. Unnamed US officials confirmed that the parties were close to accepting the agreement, but there was still "some work to do".
