(To Quoc) - It is still nearly a month until the main festival, but the atmosphere of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Tuyen Quang has already filled the streets. Giant lantern models with elaborate designs of colorful animals such as dragons, carps, elephants, bees, horses... are being hastily completed by the people, becoming an indispensable cultural feature during the Mid-Autumn Festival in Tuyen Quang.
The Mid-Autumn Festival is still nearly a month away, but at this time, the streets of Tuyen Quang city are already bustling. To have such giant, colorful lanterns is the effort and dedication of many people.
It has become a tradition that from around the beginning of the 7th lunar month, people (group 6, Minh Xuan ward, Tuyen Quang city) come together to come up with ideas to make mid-autumn lanterns. Ms. Dang Thu Huong shared: "Previously, my family mainly made star lanterns and animal lanterns. In the past few years, my family decided to switch to making mid-autumn lantern models for Minh Xuan ward. Realizing that the family's models have many unique features, gradually other residential groups in the area have come to order them. Up to now, some neighboring provinces have also come to order them."
But the "super big, giant" Mid-Autumn Festival model has become the trademark of the Mid-Autumn Festival in Tuyen Quang.
"When looking at the Mid-Autumn lantern models, they must exude a sense of closeness and friendliness. Animals are often mischievous, so the drawings of parts such as legs, eyes, noses, etc. should be as similar as possible to real life. Sometimes we can emphasize and stylize them, but in the end, the most important thing is still the soul...", said architect Vu Hoang Chau.

According to Ms. Huong, the most important step in making giant Mid-Autumn lantern models is the idea stage, from drawing to reality, artisans need creativity and sophistication to create vivid, brilliant, and attractive products. Mr. Cong often uses mica materials, which have good light absorption, to decorate the models, instead of traditional materials such as cellophane. The models are sprayed with translucent paint, creating brilliant colors, ensuring the highest aesthetics.
The electrical system mainly uses LED bulbs to save energy and reduce the possibility of fire.
In recent years, local products have been ordered by many neighboring provinces.
