The speech by Dr. Mai Liem Truc, former Permanent Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (now the Ministry of Information and Communications) said: 70 years ago, in 1954, after the Geneva Agreement was signed, peace was restored in Vietnam and Indochina, but our country was still temporarily divided into two regions, the North and the South. With a far-sighted vision, President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee had a premonition that the struggle for independence and national reunification might be long and arduous.
Along with the transfer of troops and resistance cadres to the North, it was necessary to send a large number of children and students who were the children of cadres and soldiers to the North to be cared for and trained, so that they would later become the core force to rebuild the South and rebuild the country. On the other hand, the revolutionary cadres and soldiers who remained in the South would also be able to fight with peace of mind.
Dr. Mai Liem Truc emphasized that generations of southern students always remember Uncle Ho's advice to unite students from all regions, unite with children and people in the north, always strive to study and practice to become good people, and combine learning with practice.
Since 1964, when the US sent troops to the South and expanded the war of destruction to the North, hundreds of southern high school graduates went to the South to fight. A few years later, thousands of southern university graduates, especially in the fields of medicine, education, and communications, continued to return to the South to fight and liberate their homeland.

This is the result of the policy of promoting patriotism, the strength of great national unity, international unity in the context of the country's many difficulties and challenges; a vivid symbol of revolutionary heroism, of comradely love, support and mutual assistance, ready to share all difficulties, hardships and sacrifices; a testament to the absolute trust of the southern people in Uncle Ho, the Party and the State when entrusting their young children to the glorious revolutionary cause of the Party.
The establishment of the Southern Student School system in the North is a major policy of extremely important significance, demonstrating the far-sighted vision of President Ho Chi Minh and the Party Central Committee in the cause of cultivating people, nurturing noble seeds, training, fostering and preparing cadres for the Party's revolutionary cause in the new period - Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia affirmed.
The Head of the Central Propaganda Department emphasized: The event is an opportunity for us to review history together, to be more proud and confident in the path that the Party, Uncle Ho and our revolutionary predecessors have chosen; to believe that our entire Party, people and army will promote the strength of great national unity, patriotic traditions, the spirit of "self-reliance, self-confidence, self-reliance, self-strengthening, and national pride"; to join hands and hearts to successfully implement the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress, to realize the 100-year goal that our Party has determined, to create a solid foundation for us to enter a new era, an era of national growth, for a peaceful, independent, democratic, prosperous, prosperous, civilized, happy Vietnam, steadily advancing towards socialism.
Comrade Nguyen Trong Nghia hopes and believes that former southern students in the North, regardless of their positions or circumstances, will continue to make practical and effective contributions to the cause of innovation, construction and protection of the Fatherland; continue to promote the tradition of solidarity and affection, spreading the pride of being southern students so that future generations will constantly strive to follow.
