On the evening of May 6, the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Can Tho City held the opening ceremony of the 12th Southern Traditional Cake Festival in 2025, with the theme "Preserving and promoting the value of Southern traditional cakes".

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vice Chairwoman of Can Tho City People's Committee, said that the Southern Traditional Cake Festival has become a unique cultural and tourism event of Can Tho and the Mekong Delta region. Over many years of organization, the festival has contributed to honoring, preserving and promoting the traditional culinary culture of the nation. Not only that, the event has become a bridge for exchange between artisans, businesses and tourists, promoting tourism and socio-economic development.
"The festival is not only an opportunity to honor the traditional baking profession but also opens up opportunities to connect and promote specialty products to domestic and foreign markets, contributing to making Southern folk cakes a valuable culinary brand," Ms. Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep shared.

Accordingly, the festival will take place until April 8, with 231 booths of traditional cakes, regional specialties, and cuisine. The event brings together hundreds of artisans from all regions, bringing traditional cakes, demonstrating the creativity and quintessence of Southern cuisine.
In addition, within the framework of the festival, there are exciting and interesting activities such as: cake making contest, giant pancake performance, introduction of how to make banh chung, bonsai contest. Along with that, there is a program serving art performances, exchanges of amateur music, folk songs, chants, and band performances... promising to bring interesting experiences to visitors.

Notably, this year's festival is held in the joyful and exciting atmosphere of the historic April days, celebrating the 50th anniversary of the country's reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025), especially coinciding with the Hung Kings' death anniversary. On the morning of April 7, at the Hung Kings' temple, Can Tho City will hold the Hung Kings' death anniversary with the ritual of offering incense and gifts (including traditional Southern cakes) to the Hung Kings and their ancestors.
