On the morning of January 22 (local time), at the Victoria Palace (Prime Minister's Office) in Bucharest, Prime Minister Ion-Marcel Ciolacu presided over the welcoming ceremony for Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his wife, along with a high-ranking Vietnamese delegation, on an official visit to Romania. After the welcoming ceremony, the two Prime Ministers held talks.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh's visit to Romania this time is the first delegation exchange at the Prime Minister level between the two countries in 5 years; taking place in the context of the traditional relationship and cooperation between Vietnam and Romania, which has been developing well for nearly 75 years.
The two sides regularly exchange high-level delegations. Romania was one of the first 10 countries in the world to recognize and establish diplomatic relations with Vietnam; Romania enthusiastically supported Vietnam in the resistance war.
Recently, when holding the rotating presidency of the European Union (EU), Romania has provided great support, promoting Vietnam and the EU to complete negotiations and sign the Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA) and the Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA). During the Covid-19 pandemic, while the country was still fighting the epidemic, Romania supported Vietnam with 300,000 doses of Covid-19 vaccine to fight the epidemic...

Two-way trade turnover in 2022 reached 425 million USD. By the end of 2022, Romania had 5 valid direct investment projects in Vietnam with a total registered investment capital of 1.56 million USD, ranking 42nd out of 143 countries and territories investing in Vietnam.
In particular, educational cooperation is a highlight in the cooperative relationship between the two countries. To date, Romania has trained about 4,000 Vietnamese students... However, the current bilateral cooperation is still not commensurate with the political relationship as well as the potential and desires of both countries.

During this visit, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had talks and meetings with the Prime Minister, President, President of the Senate, and President of the House of Representatives of Romania.
Along with that, the Prime Minister visited localities and universities; attended the Vietnam-Romania Business Forum; received representatives of the Romania-Vietnam Friendship Group... Thereby, these activities further deepened the traditional friendship and multifaceted cooperation between Vietnam and Romania, creating momentum to promote bilateral cooperation in Romania's strong fields and in line with Vietnam's development needs such as agriculture, manufacturing and processing industry, healthcare...; promoted business cooperation, attracted investment in many potential fields; contributed to facilitating Vietnam-EU relations.
