Every day, Lam Dong General Hospital receives more than 1,500 patients for medical examination and more than 800 inpatients. Among them, there are many patients with serious illnesses whose families are in difficult circumstances, many cases of serious illness that can still be treated but do not have money to pay hospital fees. The work of social workers at Lam Dong General Hospital is to quickly grasp the specific circumstances of patients and call for kind hearts to help them in a timely manner. Although not an emergency department, the work of social workers at the hospital is also very urgent. They are the ones who quickly connect with benefactors and post information about the circumstances of patients in need of help on social networks to call for kind hearts to join hands to help patients in difficulty to continue to receive treatment. Information about cases of patients in need of help and those who have been helped, along with real images, is regularly updated on the Facebook page of the Social Work Group - Lam Dong General Hospital.

With the motto that all hospital staff participating in the hospital's social work is increasingly strong, disciplined and professional; building a facility providing social work services in the hospital towards reducing pressure on medical staff, improving the quality of comprehensive service for patients and their families, helping patients with difficult circumstances during the examination and treatment process, thereby bringing satisfaction to patients, on September 27, 2016, the Board of Directors of Lam Dong General Hospital established a Social Work Team under the Emergency Examination Department. Up to now, the Social Work Team is under the Nursing Department and has 7 staff. Of which, the Team Leader is Ms. Bui Thi Thanh Lam - Specialist I in Public Health, Bachelor of Nursing; Deputy Team Leader is Ms. Le Thi Thuy Dung - Master of Hospital Management, Bachelor of Nursing; along with 5 social work staff all with Bachelor of Social Work, Bachelor of Tourism, Bachelor of Sociology degrees.

In 2024, the Social Work Team - Lam Dong General Hospital has implemented activities to support and advise on solving social work issues for patients and their families during the examination and treatment process. Welcoming, guiding, providing information, and supporting patients and their families when they come to the hospital for examination and treatment. Consulting and introducing medical examination and treatment services, on-demand medical examination and treatment packages and early cancer screening, and the hospital's vaccination services for patients and their families as soon as they enter the hospital. Answering patients' questions about their rights, legal benefits and obligations regarding health insurance, procedures for hospitalization, discharge, transfer, etc. are answered fully and promptly, bringing satisfaction to patients and their families. Guiding patients to use on-demand services to perform paraclinical indications quickly and reasonably, helping patients get the fastest and most satisfactory results.

In the work of information, communication and dissemination, legal education, the Social Work Group always proactively updates and learns about the State's policies and laws related to medical examination and treatment, hospital operations to guide and answer patients and their families in a timely and easy-to-understand manner. The customer care hotline and appointment scheduling, consulting on issues related to medical examination and treatment are increasingly better supported and are increasingly trusted by patients.

Regarding the mobilization of sponsorship, for patients in difficult circumstances, the Social Work Team promptly verified, coordinated with departments and offices, learned, met and discussed to grasp the circumstances, thoughts and wishes of the patients, thereby connecting with benefactors to have a plan to help patients who are financially unable to continue treatment. In 2024, the total amount of money and goods to support patients in difficult circumstances to pay hospital fees, treatment costs, and gifts for holidays and Tet is more than 1.9 billion VND. The Social Work Team promptly verified and supported 984 cases with a total support amount of nearly 1.6 billion VND. On the occasion of holidays and Tet, the Social Work Team coordinated with organizations, units and individuals to visit and give gifts to patients in difficult circumstances and children being treated in the departments, giving 742 gifts equivalent to nearly 330 million VND to share difficulties and bring joy and warmth to patients.

In addition, the Social Work Team has connected with a 0-dong bus to support the transportation of 15 patients in difficult circumstances when discharged from the hospital and transferred to other hospitals. The Social Work Team has coordinated with the Hospital Union and benefactors to give gifts to 62 pediatric patients being treated in the departments on the occasion of Children's Day and Mid-Autumn Festival. Coordinated with relevant departments, offices, departments, and sectors in finding relatives for anonymous patients being treated at the hospital. In 2024, the Social Work Team has supported the procedures to send to the Department of Labor - Invalids and Social Affairs to receive 4 patients to the Provincial Social Protection Center for care due to their lonely and destitute circumstances. The Social Work Team has connected with Hoang Nguyen Salon to provide free haircuts for patients and their families 2 sessions/week. Received 87,153 charity meals for patients in difficult circumstances at the hospital (charity kitchen).

The social work team also provides information about patients to medical staff when necessary to support treatment by understanding the circumstances, thoughts and wishes of patients and their relatives. Closely coordinate with the hospital's social work collaborators, including nurses and staff from departments and rooms, in social work activities, especially activities to grasp information about patients in difficult circumstances who need support for hospital fees, find relatives, support for free transportation to transfer to other hospitals, discharge from hospitals, etc. The hospital's social work collaborators are increasingly promoting their roles and tasks in supporting the implementation of social work activities of the hospital.
