And the MV Bac Bling (Bac Ninh) by singer Hoa Minzy was named when this special music product "motivates, inspires and renews a culture rich in national identity" - as noted by the Prime Minister!

"Storm" of views for folk music

The MV “Bac Bling” by singer Hoa Minzy, along with the participation of Meritorious Artist Xuan Hinh and about 300 local people, has created an artistic space imbued with Bac Ninh culture. Combining folk sounds and modern colors, “Bac Bling” honors Quan Ho heritage and spreads pride in the national cultural identity in general. Whether it will reach 100 million views or not is yet to be seen, but this MV has done so much so far: reaching the top 1 trending position on YouTube Vietnam for many days, even top 2 in the world and “causing a storm” in countries such as Australia, Singapore and Korea. A musical product has contributed to bringing Vietnamese culture closer to international friends, affirming the position and potential of Vietnamese music on the global music map!

“Trông cơm” was also a phenomenon of the program “Anh trai qua ngan cong gai” when it was first released, it received a “storm of views” (mid-2024) and reached the top 1 among the trending music videos on YouTube at that time.

A long time ago, singer Hoai Lam performed brilliantly when he transformed into artist Ha Thi Cau and played the erhu to sing "Xam Thap An" in the program "Familiar Faces" in 2014, receiving compliments from the judges and enthusiastic cheers from the audience...

The unique cultural beauty of Bac Ninh, the folk songs of the North, the sound of the drum, the monochord, the two-stringed fiddle, the Xam singing... when renewed on the modern stage, showing off their beauty in music programs on television always attract a huge audience of fans. It is encouraging in both aspects: first, the creators of the MVs and the producers of those art programs know how to breathe new life into traditional art in general, at that time, music has taken on the task of preserving, promoting and widely spreading the cultural values of the nation; second, Vietnamese audiences, especially the youth, have never turned their backs on the traditional culture of their country!

“Internationalization” of traditional culture

In addition to “Bac Bling”, the Vietnamese music industry has also had a series of songs that have created miracles and created explosive effects in many major markets. These include “See love” (Hoang Thuy Linh), “Vu co co anh” (Phuong My Chi), “2 phut hon” (Phao)... With such resounding music products, Vietnamese music is affirming its steady development on the world music map!

Music lovers have gone from surprise to admiration when enjoying the combination of folk music with modern genres such as pop, rap... Typical examples are "Ve nghe me ru" by People's Artist Bach Tuyet and singer Hoang Dung; "Phan hoa mau son" by Meritorious Artist Thoai My and singer H-Kray; "Xam Ha Noi" performed by Ha Myo combining Xam singing with rap, electronic music; or actress Bien Thuy from Bac Lieu also had an extremely cute combination of vọng cổ singing with the hit song "Qua cau chuem em" in her journey to conquer the championship of the 2024 Cai Luong Academy program...

Returning to the dialogue with the youth mentioned above, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh shared his feelings: "I am very happy that young people today are reviving national culture, creating attractive products not only domestically but also internationally." The head of the Government affirmed and expected that young people must be the leading force in digitizing data on cultural heritages, "red addresses", creating online platforms to introduce traditional arts such as Cheo, Tuong, Art, Cai Luong... widely not only domestically but also internationally.

The MVs and reality shows on television that many young artists have renewed by combining and integrating folk music with contemporary music, attracting a record number of viewers, are living proof that the responsibility of preserving and promoting national cultural values in the way of young people is being effective and on the right track. Traditional culture both preserves immutable values and still adapts to the times, still "attracting" the younger generation!

In Bac Lieu alone, the song “Da co Hoai lang” by the late musician Cao Van Lau was internationalized by the late musician Vu Duc Sao Bien into three popular languages in the world: English, French and Chinese. “Da co Hoai lang” appeared on the stage of “Anh trai vuon ngan cong gai” and also received a lot of compliments when sending the message of preserving traditional music and the beautiful values of national culture from a musical masterpiece. Believe that in the future, there will be more stories to continue this immortal heart melody, on a wider scale.

Reality has proven that internationalization, making traditional culture in general, and folk music in particular, spread its quintessence to the world is not difficult, if there are closely linked factors: intelligence, passion, dedication and recognition and praise from the head of the Government in a dialogue with the youth - practical support that creates more motivation for young people to renew traditional culture.
