Ambassador Dang Minh Khoi used his first words to welcome all the distinguished guests who attended the important event of the Vietnam People's Army, the predecessor of the Vietnam Propaganda Liberation Army, consisting of only 34 soldiers, founded on this day 80 years ago.
Over the past eight decades, the Vietnam People's Army, together with the entire Party and people, has achieved glorious feats in the cause of national liberation, building and defending the Fatherland, from the Dien Bien Phu Victory that "resounded throughout the five continents and shook the world," to the General Offensive and Uprising in the spring of 1975, culminating in the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign, completely liberating the South and unifying the country, a feat that to date has only been successfully accomplished by Vietnam in the world.
Throughout its formation, fighting and growth, the Vietnam People's Army has accompanied the close relationship between Vietnam and the Soviet Union, then the Russian Federation.
As the two countries prepare to celebrate the 75th anniversary of the establishment of relations, during which, since the Great Patriotic War of 1941-1945, Vietnamese international volunteers fought and sacrificed to protect Moscow.
The country and people of Vietnam have lived in peace since 1975 after 30 years of war, in which the Vietnamese army and people never forget the sincere and just help from the former Soviet Union and the Russian Federation, especially the military experts and advisors, who considered helping the young Army as a “heart command.”
Continuing the Ambassador's words, Defense Attaché Colonel Vuong Dac Thang affirmed that currently, the Vietnam People's Army continues to develop in a lean, strong and agile manner, always ready to protect independence, territorial integrity, and national interests, while making important contributions to building and strengthening trust between nations.
As one of the key areas of the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and the Russian Federation, cooperation in the defense sector to promote peace, security and stability in the region and the world is developing and successfully enhancing, especially in areas such as delegation exchanges at all levels, military-technical cooperation, cooperation between military services and branches of the Armed Forces, cooperation between academies and higher education institutions of the Armed Forces of the two countries in military personnel training.
In 2024, many important political events took place between Vietnam and Russia, including the State visit to Vietnam by Russian President Vladimir Putin in June 2024. Leaders of the two countries always pay attention to and support the development of Vietnam-Russia defense relations.
On behalf of the Russian Ministry of Defense, Director General of the General Department of International Military Cooperation Lieutenant General Aleksandr Kshimovsky warmly congratulated the 80th anniversary of the founding of the Vietnam People's Army, affirming that the Vietnam People's Army has successfully continued the tradition of victory since its inception with the "Elder Brother" of the Army - General Vo Nguyen Giap, never faltering in the face of difficulties. The strength of solidarity, creative labor, bravery, intelligence and fighting spirit of the Army has become a solid foundation for the country.
Lieutenant General Kshimovsky affirmed that the tradition of supporting Vietnam since the Soviet era has never been "discontinued," as today Vietnam is a strategic and reliable partner of the Russian Federation in Southeast Asia in particular and the Asia-Pacific region in general.
The representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense also used the Vietnamese proverb "when drinking water, remember its source" to emphasize the obligation to always remember and cherish history and properly transfer it to future generations.
In a solemn but friendly atmosphere, comrades, teammates and partners together reviewed the development path of the Vietnam People's Army over the past 80 years, its achievements in participating in international and regional institutions and organizations, and participating in United Nations peacekeeping activities, deserving to be a loyal and truly trustworthy force of the Party, State and people, and together with the whole country entering a new era, an era of the Vietnamese nation's rise./.
