In July 1964, the Zone 5 Party Committee decided to launch a general uprising to destroy strategic hamlets. The Thang Binh District Party Committee was determined to take Binh Duong commune as a key area - considered the "outpost watchtower" in the east of Thang Binh District, a springboard for cadres and armed forces to operate in the temporarily occupied enemy area, opening a general uprising to regain the Eastern region.
The Party cell and the Commune Uprising Committee discussed the District Party Committee's directive and quickly disseminated it to the village executive committees; on the night of September 4, 1964, a meeting was held at the grassroots level to thoroughly grasp the policy of unified action.
According to the plan, on the evening of September 5, 1964, our army opened fire to attack Binh Duong, but the enemy knew our attack plan so they issued an urgent order to prepare for a response. In that situation, after a quick meeting, the commanders of the province and district decided to choose 12 noon on September 5, 1964 to issue the uprising order and won the victory.
The victory of the uprising and liberation of Binh Duong commune in 1964 was the result of the harmonious coordination between the armed forces of the province, district and local guerrilla forces. Along with that, the high determination of the Party Committee and people of Binh Duong in the resistance war against the US for national salvation promoted the movement to liberate the communes in the East Thang Binh region, opening the uprising movement in the coastal areas of Quang Nam province... contributing with the people of the whole country to complete the historical mission of completely liberating the South and unifying the country.
Places such as Hang Cu - Cay Moc, Trang Mo, Bau Binh Concave Base... have gone down in the history of the nation's resistance against foreign invaders. And it was on this land that 4,700 people died, including 1,298 martyrs; in addition, there were more than 300 wounded soldiers, thousands of families with meritorious services to the revolution.
Up to now, Binh Duong commune has 358 mothers who have been awarded and posthumously awarded the title of Vietnamese Heroic Mother, 5 individuals have been posthumously awarded and conferred the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces...
Binh Duong commune was awarded the title of Hero of the People's Armed Forces by the Party and State twice in 1970 and 1972. With its efforts to build the homeland in peacetime, in 1985, Binh Duong commune was awarded the title of Hero of Labor by the President.
Over the past 60 years, the Party Committee and people of Binh Duong commune have always united to overcome difficulties and achieved many achievements in many fields. Up to now, the average income per capita has reached nearly 53 million VND/year; the poverty rate has decreased to 1.61%. The Party Committee of the commune was awarded the Party Flag by the Standing Committee of Quang Nam Provincial Party Committee for meeting the standard of "Excellently completing tasks" for 5 consecutive years (2019 - 2023).
At the ceremony, Binh Duong commune leaders presented 8 gifts (1.5 million VND/gift) to Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, veteran cadres, and outstanding revolutionaries in the area.
