On July 30, in Ho Chi Minh City, the forum "Attracting investment for green agricultural development 2024" took place. The forum was organized by Business Forum magazine in coordination with related units.

At the event, speakers discussed challenges and proposed solutions to remove "bottlenecks" and create a "push" for the development of Vietnam's green and sustainable agriculture sector.

Experience from Thailand , Japan, Israel

Sharing at the event, Mr. Ngo Xuan Chinh - Director of the Center for Research and Transfer of Agricultural Technology Advances - emphasized that technology application plays an important role in developing sustainable agriculture.

Mr. Chinh cited that in Japan, although agriculture only contributed 1% of total GDP in 2020, in 2021 the Japanese Government still spent more than 50 billion USD to support agricultural development.

Accordingly, to develop green agriculture, Japan will increase the capacity of food factories by 30% through automation, while reducing the total amount of chemicals used in agriculture by 50%, striving to increase the organic farming area to 1 million hectares by 2050.

Similarly, the Israeli government also invests heavily in technology throughout the entire agricultural production process from cultivation to harvesting, preservation and consumption.

Farmers can manage a farming area of up to 5,000 - 6,000 hectares with just a tablet or smartphone.

The server system will tell which garden needs what fertilizer, how to water it, and adjust the appropriate and sufficient capacity.

In Thailand, to develop green agriculture, the government of the land of golden temples chooses to develop agricultural products according to the characteristics of each climate zone and the advantages of ecological conditions, in order to reduce negative impacts on the environment.

Especially in rice cultivation, the Thai Government provides support from seed purchase, planting techniques to product consumption for farmers to minimize the amount of pesticides.

From the examples of Japan, Thailand and Israel, Mr. Xuan Chinh concluded: "Each country has its own approach, suitable to its natural and socio-economic conditions, but natural factors and scientific application are the key and core factors for developing green agriculture."

Solutions to promote green agriculture

Regarding investment capital for green growth, speakers said that the agricultural sector needs to focus on mobilizing social resources, especially from businesses, to implement green growth goals.

In addition, it is necessary to strengthen international cooperation to call for financial support and technology transfer, in order to make Vietnamese agriculture a model of green, low-carbon agricultural development. It is necessary to renew thinking and awareness, proactively promote green economy, green growth, and green consumption.

Experts also emphasized that in terms of science and technology, it is necessary to focus on improving knowledge and techniques in cultivation and animal husbandry for people through the agricultural extension network, helping people to be proactive in production based on their own knowledge, and promoting the application of new scientific advances in production.

At the same time, localities need to create large-scale specialized production areas, standardized with strict farming processes, and at the same time digitally transform to connect information between production and consumption, thereby tracing the origin of products.

Experts also proposed mechanisms to promote linkages and increase efficiency for investment capital flows by exploiting green agriculture in cross-products such as: exploiting services from ecological models, replicating OCOP products in tourism services, branding green agricultural products in all stages of cultivation...
