Experience driving in narrow spaces and car washes to avoid collisions and over-speeding

(Dan Tri) - To be able to drive a car safely into narrow spaces or align the car up a ramp at a car wash or repair shop, a driver needs both skill and experience.

The first advice for drivers is that if they are new to driving and have "inexperienced" driving skills, then if possible, proactively avoid driving into narrow spaces or up steep slopes, because these are situations that can easily lead to collisions, loss of composure, and loss of control of the brake and accelerator pedals.

To be able to drive safely in the above situations, drivers need to practice the following skills:

Open standard crab

This is a skill that can only be acquired through practice. Correct cornering will help the driver get into tight spaces, whether moving forward or backward, much easier, avoiding collisions.

To turn correctly, the driver needs to observe and estimate the appropriate curb/column/angle, and control the vehicle's direction of movement.

Wide view

Drivers need to practice observing a wide range to be able to proactively handle situations, avoiding putting themselves in a dilemma or crashing into low-lying obstacles, such as curbs, pets, or even small children standing or sitting on the side of the road, making it difficult to observe.

Despite the support of rearview mirrors, sensors, and cameras, in some cases, drivers need to proactively get out of the car to observe the surroundings, lean forward to observe the front, and stick their heads out the window to directly observe the sides or rear of the car.

"Advance by following the back, retreat by following the belly"

This principle is often applied when driving a car in/out of a garage or gate on a small street, going through a wall corner, column corner, turning the car at a three-way intersection...

You can simply remember that when cornering, the side the steering wheel turns to is the belly (Illustration: ST).

When turning, imagine the curve as a shrimp, or a person lying down. When the car is moving forward, the driver must drive to the right side, like the back of the person lying down. Conversely, when reversing, the driver must drive to the left side, like the belly of the person lying down.

High concentration

This is very important whether driving in the city or on the highway. However, in narrow places or difficult terrain, when going uphill, on lifts at car washes or repair shops..., drivers need to concentrate more to handle the situation accurately and correct mistakes in time.

Adjust the speed appropriately

Control the accelerator and brake pedals well, do not be hasty or subjective even if you have been driving for a long time. In difficult terrain, the driver needs to move slowly to be able to observe and handle the situation.

Besides, by following the slogan "take your foot off the gas, touch the brake", the driver will limit the mistake of stepping on the gas pedal by mistake, or avoid the situation of over-speeding.

Accordingly, even when not pressing the gas pedal, the driver should move the toe of the foot to the brake pedal to be ready to handle unexpected situations.

Keeping your heels fixed, only rotating your toes in a V shape when switching from gas to brake, and vice versa, instead of moving your entire foot, is a habit you should practice to avoid confusing the gas pedal and the brake pedal (Illustration: Viet Hung).
