Ha Tinh's export turnover sets a record of nearly 2.45 billion USD

Closing 2023 with many difficulties and challenges of the global and regional economy, Ha Tinh's export turnover still reached a record figure of nearly 2.45 billion USD - the highest ever.

"Sweet fruit" in hardship

In 2023, the story of difficulties in the garment and textile industries; many enterprises are stuck due to the damaged financial situation, becoming a common story of the whole country. However, with the breakthrough efforts of enterprises in Ha Tinh, "closing the book" in 2023, the province's export turnover still set a new record to date with nearly 2.45 billion USD (the target is 2 billion USD).

Steel products and steel billets of Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation account for over 90% of total export turnover.

An important contribution to this result is the export of steel and steel billets of Formosa Ha Tinh Steel Corporation. If in 2022, the market faced difficulties and Formosa's inventory was quite large, in 2023, the consumption of the world steel market was positive and prices increased, so the export value of steel products and steel billets reached more than 2.2 billion USD, an increase of 43% compared to 2022.

The wood chip export industry faced many difficulties at the beginning of the year due to a sharp drop in product prices. However, from June onwards, prices increased again and market demand was high, so businesses' activities improved and regained growth momentum. As a result, at the end of 2023, the export turnover of this item reached nearly 66 million USD. Mr. Le Huu Son - Chief Accountant of HANVIHA Forestry and Paper Materials Production Company (Vung Ang Economic Zone) said: "When the wood chip industry stabilized again, the company quickly connected with partners, ensured quality goods, and promoted production and business activities. Thanks to that, the company has completed the export target of over 150,000 tons of dry chips".

Wood chip export turnover reached nearly 66 million USD in 2023.

Besides the product groups that achieved good growth, in 2023, many industries faced numerous difficulties such as seafood, textile fibers, garments... Enterprises had to make efforts to maintain production and business, retain employees, and wait for the market to recover.

Mr. Ho Van Cat - Deputy Director of TAAD Ha Tinh Production, Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company shared: “2023 is an extremely difficult year for garment export enterprises when orders decrease. To maintain production and create jobs for more than 260 workers, we have made efforts to implement many solutions such as: improving product quality, trying to minimize defective products, accepting more small-scale processing orders, offering better policies for workers... Thanks to that, although we could not "reach the target" of 60 billion VND, the company still achieved a revenue of more than 54 billion VND, almost equal to 2022. Hopefully, 2024 will open up more opportunities for the garment industry to develop".

With many solutions to overcome difficulties, TAAD Ha Tinh Production, Investment and Trading Joint Stock Company achieved revenue of more than 54 billion VND in 2023.

Mr. Vo Ta Nghia - Deputy Director of the Department of Industry and Trade said: “The export proportion of steel products and steel billets of Formosa Ha Tinh Iron and Steel Corporation accounts for over 90% of the total export turnover. Therefore, although the export turnover of some items decreased, it did not greatly affect the total turnover of the whole province and still reached an impressive figure. By October 2023, the export turnover had completed the year's target and closed the year exceeding 22.5% of the plan”.

Creating momentum for growth

2023 is the mid-term year. Export activities have achieved and exceeded the target set by the Resolution of the 19th Provincial Party Congress (the export turnover target in 2025 is 2 billion USD), which is a clear demonstration of Ha Tinh's aspiration to reach new heights. The results achieved create new growth momentum for the provincial economy and are an important premise for Ha Tinh to set an export turnover target of 2.4 billion USD in 2024.

Tea is a commodity with high export turnover in 2023.

It can be seen that, in addition to the efforts of enterprises, the fundamental solutions of the industry and trade sector, the policies issued by the province have become a "lever" to create momentum for this sector. To continue promoting the growth of export activities, at the end of 2023 session, the Provincial People's Council issued a Resolution on a number of policies to support the development of logistics services and exports in Ha Tinh province in the period of 2024-2025. With many attractive policies such as: supporting containerized sea transport vehicles through Vung Ang port; supporting funding for participation in fairs, trade promotion delegations, surveying and learning about export markets; supporting the construction of booths for promotion and export on e-commerce platforms..., it is believed that export activities will have further progress in the coming time.

According to Mr. Vo Ta Nghia, in 2024, the Ha Tinh industry and trade sector will continue to synchronously implement the province's resolutions on export activities, supporting businesses to better absorb policies. At the same time, it will accompany businesses in trade promotion activities, expand markets, apply scientific and technological advances to production, effectively exploit incentives from free trade agreements that Vietnam participates in; improve infrastructure, develop production, and diversify the province's export products.
