According to the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health, in addition to treatment indications based on scientific evidence that have been included in official treatment guidelines issued by the Ministry of Health, recently there have been advertisements on the internet about some other applications of LM and LHT to help prevent diseases related to blood fat, stroke or eliminate toxins in healthy people.
Faced with this situation, the Department of Health invited leading experts in the fields of dialysis, nephrology, and intensive care in the city, along with representatives of a number of private general hospitals approved by the Ministry of Health to deploy LM and LHT techniques, to attend a workshop on updating scientific evidence on the indications for LM and LHT in the treatment of hypertriglyceridemia and dyslipidemia, to seriously discuss and reach consensus on this issue in the actual practice of medical examination and treatment at medical facilities in the area.
Accordingly, experts discussed and agreed: Indications for plasma exchange treatment should continue to be implemented according to the recommendations of the American Society of Hemodialysis - ASFA (2023); Expanding the indication requires additional legal basis, medical evidence and consensus from competent authorities.
Experts affirm that there is not enough medical evidence or legal basis to apply this method to prevent diseases related to blood fat, stroke or eliminate toxins in healthy people. More valuable clinical studies are needed to more accurately assess the effectiveness and safety of this technique for other diseases.
Experts also agreed that the indication of LM and LHT must strictly comply with the instructions of the Ministry of Health, specifically: Medical facilities must comply with the Law on Medical Examination and Treatment, Decree No. 96/2023/ND-CP and legal regulations during operation, especially properly implementing regulations on advertising in the medical field; Strictly comply with the diagnosis and treatment guidelines and technical procedures issued by the Ministry of Health, including the indication of LM and LHT methods to treat patients;
The application of new techniques, new methods, new medical equipment or clinical trials must ensure the conditions and procedures prescribed by law.
The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Health has requested the Drug and Treatment Council of public and non-public hospitals to strengthen the review and inspection of compliance with technical indications for LM and LHT in patient treatment and compliance with legal regulations in medical examination and treatment at medical facilities.
