At the seminar "Scientific research: Innovation in thinking and creativity for breakthroughs", scientists assessed that Resolution 57 of the Politburo on "Breakthrough in science, technology development, innovation and national digital transformation" brings strong motivation to scientists.
According to statistics from the Ministry of Science and Technology, thanks to the application of science and technology, the productivity of some livestock and crops in Vietnam is high compared to other countries in the region and the world, such as: Rice productivity is the highest in ASEAN countries (1.5 times higher than Thailand), coffee productivity ranks second in the world (after Brazil), pepper productivity ranks first in the world, rubber ranks second in the world (after India), tra fish with a productivity of 500 tons/ha is also the highest in the world...
In the current context, the agricultural sector is facing difficulties and challenges from the impact of rising input material prices and food prices due to supply chain disruptions; potential outbreaks of diseases in humans, crops and livestock; changes in demand and consumption patterns, especially in the domestic market; increasingly clear and extreme climate change, unpredictable natural disasters, drought and saltwater intrusion are always potential risks...
To turn challenges into opportunities, the Government has issued many strategic directions and policies to enhance the application of science and technology in agricultural production, in which Resolution 57-NQ/TW was issued by the Politburo on December 22, 2024, emphasizing that the development of science, technology, innovation and digital transformation is a decisive factor in the development of countries; is a prerequisite and the best opportunity for our country to develop richly and powerfully in the new era - the era of national development.
Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan - Director of the Institute of Agricultural Mechanics and Post-Harvest Technology said that Resolution 57 has created excitement for scientists, especially processing is one of the great opportunities to increase value and develop a circular economy in agriculture.
According to Mr. Tuan, the current rate of deep processing of agricultural products in Vietnam is still low, below 20%. The orientation of research and application in preservation and processing with world-class technology will help promote the increase of value for the agricultural sector in the coming time.
“Although seafood preservation technology has achieved some success, its application on a large scale is still limited. Therefore, it is necessary to promote research and application of technologies to reduce post-harvest losses, and at the same time develop primary processors to serve raw materials for processing and export. In the processing sector, we should not only focus on processing the main product but also apply biotechnology to produce waste products into main products," said Associate Professor, Dr. Pham Anh Tuan.
Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Pham Bao Duong - Rector of Bac Giang University of Agriculture and Forestry shared that the school enthusiastically welcomed Resolution No. 57-NQ/TW, considering it as the "key" to promote development and successful innovation from agriculture, thereby liberating labor. According to Mr. Pham Bao Duong, before the innovation, we were hungry, but after the innovation, by motivating people to enthusiastically produce, reclaim land, increase crops, in some places increase up to 4 rice crops/year, the agricultural sector has had a very strong breakthrough in development. However, up to now, there is no more room to increase the area, to increase the output and quality of agricultural products, we must innovate science and technology, innovate and create.
To improve the effectiveness of the implementation of Resolution 57-NQ/TW, Prof. Dr. Nguyen Hong Son, Director of the Vietnam Academy of Agricultural Sciences, identified four key contents that need to be implemented. Specifically, continuing to review and reorganize the apparatus in the spirit of Decree 19; strengthening solutions to exploit investment resources; changing management capacity in units and focusing on managing scientific and technological products to ensure the quality and applicability of research products in practice.
