When will the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion be built?

It is expected that on January 15, the project to build Deo Ngang tunnel and bridges and access roads in the two provinces of Ha Tinh and Quang Binh will be implemented by the contractor.

On January 8, in an interview with Giao Thong Newspaper, a representative of the Railway Project Management Board (Ministry of Transport - project investor) said that on January 15, contractors are expected to start construction of the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion project and bridges and access roads through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.

Deo Ngang road tunnel under construction is located to the right of the existing tunnel.

Regarding site clearance, the investor representative said that the area north of the tunnel has been basically handed over by the People's Committee of Ky Anh town; the area south of the tunnel in Quang Binh province is actively implementing compensation for households, converting forest land...

"Currently, the joint venture of construction contractors including Song Da 10 - Long Hung - Huy Hoan Company is gathering machinery in the north of the tunnel to prepare for construction," informed the leader of the Railway Management Board.

To implement the expansion of Deo Ngang tunnel and the road leading to the tunnel, Mr. Nguyen Tuan Vu - Chairman of the Compensation and Site Clearance Council of Ky Anh town said that the unit must convert the forest purpose of 0.88 hectares, along with paying compensation, support, and resettlement in the first phase for 22 households with an area of ​​3.17 hectares.

The construction of an additional tunnel will share the fire with the existing tunnel that has been in operation for more than 20 years.

"At the same time, the unit coordinated with relevant parties to develop a plan to relocate 35kV power lines, transformer stations, fiber optic cables, telecommunications lines...", Mr. Vu said.

To serve the Deo Ngang tunnel expansion project, Quang Binh province also issued a decision to change the purpose of using more than 2.5 hectares of planted forest to another purpose to carry out the Deo Ngang tunnel construction item under the project to upgrade and expand a number of bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1.

The location of the change of purpose is in Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district, Quang Binh province.

Specifically, the purpose of use of more than 2.5 hectares of planted forests, including more than 2.4 hectares of production forests and 0.04 hectares of unplanned forests of 3 types of forests originating from production forests, was changed. The locations are at 23 lots in plot 1, sub-area 150 and plot 1, sub-area 151, Quang Dong commune, Quang Trach district.

Mr. Nguyen Duc Hien, Chairman of Quang Dong Commune People's Committee, said that about 20 households have forest land affected when the project is implemented. Currently, the authorities are only doing the measurement and counting.

According to Mr. Hien, because Quang Binh province has just issued a specific land price list, the site clearance work will take some more time.

Previously, the Ministry of Transport approved the project to upgrade and expand bridges and tunnels on National Highway 1 with a total investment of nearly 2,000 billion VND. This includes the Deo Ngang tunnel - the border between Quang Binh and Ha Tinh.

Accordingly, a new 555m long tunnel will be built to the west of the current tunnel, with a width of 10.5m, including 4 lanes. The tunnel is expected to be completed in 2025. When completed, Deo Ngang tunnel will operate 2 tunnels in parallel with a total roadbed width of up to 20.5m, providing 4 lanes for motor vehicles and 2 lanes for non-motor vehicles.

The Deo Ngang Tunnel expansion project, when completed, is expected to meet the increasing traffic demand on National Highway 1, through Ha Tinh and Quang Binh provinces.
