Lak Lake is located in Lien Son town, Lak district, Dak Lak province. It is the largest freshwater lake in the Central Highlands and the second largest in Vietnam, after Ba Be Lake in Bac Kan.
With an area of about 6.2 km2, located at an altitude of more than 500m above sea level, this is considered a natural lake with a larger area than Gia Lai's Bien Ho, giving visitors an overwhelming feeling when they set foot here.
According to legend, Lak Lake was created by the hero Lak Lieng of the M'Nong ethnic group. According to the M'Nong people, since ancient times, the water god and the fire god have a fierce battle. Although the fire god was the final winner, the consequence was a prolonged drought that caused the M'Nong people to fall into hunger and poverty.
In the midst of the fierce war, the son of the fire god and a M'Nong girl was born. To atone for his father's mistake, he decided to find a water source to save the villagers.
After a long time of searching without any results, he accidentally met and saved a baby eel stuck in a crevice in the rocks. The eel, after being freed, led him to a vast blue lake and later, the M'Nong people settled here. That place was Lak Lake.

Lak Lake is located about 60km from Buon Ma Thuot city center. The lake's main water source comes from the Krong Ana River. Around the lake is a large primeval forest covered with diverse flora and fauna. All create a beautiful natural picture, bringing a sense of peace and romance.
The climate in Buon Ma Thuot is divided into two distinct seasons: the rainy season, starting from May to the end of October, and the dry season from November to April of the following year.
During the rainy season, the humid weather and sudden showers can disrupt your exploration journey. Therefore, this is not the ideal time for your travel.
According to Lak Lake travel experience, tourists should visit from September to December, because at this time the lake surface is high, the trees are green and the weather is also extremely favorable.
