On August 20, the General Department of Market Management organized an exhibition with the theme "Identifying genuine and fake textbooks and school supplies" at 62 Trang Tien (Hoan Kiem - Hanoi).
As reported by SGGP Newspaper, recently, market management forces in some localities have discovered and arrested cases of production, printing, and trading of fake textbooks on a large scale and in large quantities.
According to the General Department of Market Management, since the beginning of 2024, authorities have discovered and seized hundreds of thousands of publications with counterfeit packaging and product labels of the Vietnam Education Publishing House and a number of other publishers.
Notable cases include the discovery of nearly 80,000 textbooks with counterfeit packaging and labels of the Vietnam Education Publishing House in Hau Giang province; the seizure of 34,000 textbooks with counterfeit product labels in Dong Nai province; and the discovery and seizure of 5,500 counterfeit textbooks in Tay Ninh province.
At the exhibition opening on August 20, the General Department of Market Management introduced to the public samples of real textbooks, reference books, etc. placed next to fake textbooks, exercise books, reference books, etc. that were discovered and confiscated in the past for identification and distinction.
Accordingly, the basis for identifying and distinguishing between real and fake books is mainly based on color, image, book size, paper weight, content, anti-counterfeit stamps and scratch card codes... Counterfeit books and pirated books often have low quality paper, blurred printing, do not meet specifications and technical standards, affecting students' physical health, especially eyesight.
In Vietnam, the production and trading of textbooks, reference books, comics, and other types of learning materials with counterfeit brands and poor quality is quite common, causing significant impacts on publishers, businesses, authors, publishing units, and affiliated partners, and causing large losses to the state budget.
The gallery is open from August 20 to August 24.
