A representative of the Vietnam Education Publishing House (VEP) warned parents, students and people to always be vigilant against any unverified information or distortions about textbook content on social networking sites.
Information is currently circulating on social networks about some historical distortions that are said to be material in textbooks.
Specifically, a group on the Facebook social network named "Vietnam History Forum LSVN", in a post attached a picture of a book page with the following false content: "After destroying the Xuan Loc and Phan Rang defense bases, at 5:00 p.m. on April 26, five armies simultaneously entered the city center, capturing the headquarters of the Saigon government. At 11:30 a.m. the same day, the revolutionary flag flew on the roof of the Independence Palace, signaling the complete victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign".
The above incorrect content was cut and edited from the History 12 textbook, Connecting knowledge with life series of Vietnam Education Publishing House.
Specifically, on page 51 of the History 12 textbook, the Connecting Knowledge with Life series of the Vietnam Education Publishing House, printed and circulated in the third quarter of 2024, the exact content is written as follows: "After destroying the Phan Rang and Xuan Loc defense bases, at 5:00 p.m. on April 26, five armies simultaneously entered the city center, capturing the headquarters of the Saigon government. At 11:30 a.m. on April 30, the revolutionary flag flew on the roof of the Independence Palace, signaling the complete victory of the historic Ho Chi Minh Campaign".
Regarding the content of the above social networking site, Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung - member of the Board of Members, Deputy Editor-in-Chief of Vietnam Education Publishing House affirmed that the content distorting historical events above is not included in the textbooks of Vietnam Education Publishing House.
Associate Professor Dr. Nguyen Van Tung emphasized: "Posting information that distorts the content of textbooks, is not in accordance with culture, history, and customs, and damages the reputation and legitimate interests of the publishing house. In addition, this behavior creates bad public opinion in society."
Associate Professor, Dr. Nguyen Van Tung reminded parents, students and people to always be vigilant against all unverified and distorted information on social networking sites today.
Vietnam Education Publishing House is considering asking the authorities to investigate the source of the above information. At the same time, clarify the responsibilities of individuals and organizations that posted and distorted it.
Previously in 2023, the Ministry of Education and Training had asked the authorities to investigate the origin of false information spreading on social networks related to the content of the poem "Pounding rice to cook rice" which was not in the textbook.
