The event was organized by the Department of Performing Arts in coordination with the Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism of Thai Nguyen province and the Vietnam Stage Artists Association.
This year's festival brings together nearly 1,000 artists and actors from 19 professional domestic and foreign drama units to participate in 23 plays, which are unique and outstanding artistic products of the Vietnamese performing arts.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Deputy Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Ta Quang Dong said that the 2024 National Drama Festival is one of the specific activities to implement the viewpoints and tasks set forth in the Party Resolution to continue building and developing literature and arts in the new period.
This activity also contributes to promoting the implementation of the Resolution of the 13th National Party Congress on "Preserving and promoting traditional cultural values, absorbing the quintessence of humanity, comprehensively developing people and building an advanced Vietnamese culture imbued with national cultural identity so that culture truly becomes an endogenous strength, a driving force for national development and national defense" and the task of reviving and developing Vietnamese culture under the direction of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong at the 2021 National Cultural Conference.

According to Deputy Minister Ta Quang Dong, the organization of the Festival aims to discover and honor collectives and individuals with achievements in the process of working and creating art. At the same time, it is an opportunity for units to foster the capacity of artists and next-generation actors, actors and artists to exchange, learn from experience, cultivate knowledge, improve professional qualifications and performance quality to serve the people.
In addition, through the Festival, it is an opportunity for state management agencies from the central to local levels to properly assess the current status of Drama activities, thereby promptly proposing new methods of operation, overcoming existing problems, promoting Drama development in accordance with the reality of social life, meeting the enjoyment needs of the people.

Immediately after the opening ceremony, the audience enjoyed the play “Time Wharf” performed by the Youth Theater. The play was adapted by author Ta Xuyen from the work “Thirteen Wharfs” by writer Suong Nguyet Minh, revolving around the fates of people in the post-war period.
As planned, the 2024 National Drama Festival will last until June 26.
