Hanoi Medical University has a new Chairman of the University Council

Minister of Health Dao Hong Lan presented the decision to recognize Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong as Chairwoman of the Board of Directors of Hanoi Medical University.

Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Thi Thu Huong graduated from Hanoi Medical University (1995), Master's degree from Libre de Bruxelles University, Belgium (2004) and PhD from the University of Public Health (2013). Associate Professor Huong received advanced training in political theory and advanced training in public administration at Harvard University and Indiana University (USA).

She has participated in compiling many books and documents for training in her field of expertise. Associate Professor Huong was recognized as Associate Professor in 2017.

Since 2024, she has been a Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (USA) and has taught and guided many graduate and master students, with many research works published in domestic and international journals.

With the efforts of Associate Professor Huong and her colleagues, the former Department of HIV/AIDS Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health has implemented many effective programs, contributing to making Vietnam the 4th country in the world in terms of HIV/AIDS treatment quality and leading the Asia-Pacific region in pre-exposure prophylaxis.

Vietnam has achieved impressive results, with new infections down 60% compared to 2010, more than 97% of ARV patients achieving viral loads below the detection threshold, and mother-to-child transmission rates down from 30% to below 1.9%.

At the Decision Announcement Ceremony, Minister Dao Hong Lan congratulated Associate Professor Phan Thi Thu Huong, the leaders, staff, lecturers, civil servants, and all students of Hanoi Medical University.

In particular, the Minister acknowledged the contributions of more than 40 years of work, including 17 years as a manager, of Prof. Dr. Ta Thanh Van, former Chairman of the School Council, to the great achievements of the School.

According to the regulations on personnel work, Prof. Dr. Ta Thanh Van's term of office will end in January 2026. However, in the process of implementing and arranging the organization of personnel work, Prof. Ta Thanh Van has expressed his wish to transfer the duties of Chairman of the University Council to focus on teaching and research, thereby creating favorable conditions for the Ministry of Health in the process of transferring personnel work.

From there, the Ministry has implemented the steps according to the procedure to dismiss Professor Ta Thanh Van from the position of Chairman of the Hanoi Medical University Council to complete this position for Associate Professor Phan Thi Thu Huong. This demonstrates the high sense of responsibility of comrade Ta Thanh Van for the development of the University in the next period," Minister Dao Hong Lan shared.

Also at the announcement ceremony, the Minister assigned the task to the leaders and staff of Hanoi Medical University to develop the University into a national key university with capacity and prestige in training, research, medical examination and treatment services, innovation, playing a core, leading role in the network of university education institutions in the health sector, achieving top quality in Asia; ensuring training to improve the quality of medical staff, contributing to improving public health and people's health care, thereby improving the stature of Vietnamese people...

Immediately after the ceremony, the new Chairman of the School Board signed cooperation agreements with departments/offices of the Ministry of Health and many hospitals, aiming to strengthen the training of high-quality medical human resources, improve scientific research capacity and the quality of medical examination and treatment.

Hanoi Medical University is the leading medical training institution in Vietnam. Over 123 years of establishment and development, the University has trained more than 40,000 doctors, including many professors and leading doctors. The University currently manages Hanoi Medical University Hospital and 5 practice hospitals, pioneering in the application of advanced techniques such as endoscopic surgery, organ transplantation and modern treatment methods. In 2022, 7 training programs of the University were recognized as meeting AUN-QA standards, affirming the international education quality of the University.
