Hat Xam is a form of folk performance using the art of singing and music, a unique art form in the nation's traditional music treasure with a long history of formation and development.
Although Xam has had ups and downs in development, it is currently developing strongly in many localities across the country, especially in the Northern Delta, including Ninh Binh - where the late artist Ha Thi Cau, with her singing voice spanning the centuries, devoted her whole life to singing, composing and teaching Xam, making Xam singing a bright spot.
In 2022, Ninh Binh Xam singing art was recognized as a National Intangible Cultural Heritage. In order to preserve, revive and promote the value of Xam singing art, over the years, Ninh Binh province has made efforts to carry out many scientific studies, domestic and international seminars, develop conservation projects and practical activities such as: teaching, strengthening the activities of Xam clubs and groups, regularly organizing public performances.
The 2023 Ninh Binh Xam Singing Festival is the opening of a series of activities of the 2nd Ninh Binh Festival to be held at the end of November.
This year's Xam singing festival attracted 20 Xam singing clubs from 10 provinces and cities nationwide with nearly 200 artists, actors, and musicians participating.
During the 2 days of performance, the Xam singing clubs will compete with 59 performances of many Xam melodies such as: Xam Cho, Thap An, Riem Hue, Phon Hue, Chenh Bong, Ba Cap, Ha Lieu...
This is the third time Ninh Binh province has organized the Xam singing art festival.
The 2023 Ninh Binh Xam Singing Festival is an opportunity to promote and introduce the folk performing art of Xam singing - a national intangible cultural heritage; at the same time, it is an activity to raise awareness of all levels, sectors and communities in restoring, preserving and promoting the values of Xam singing art, which is a premise for building a national dossier to submit to UNESCO to inscribe Xam singing art into the list of intangible cultural heritage in need of urgent protection of humanity.
The festival is also an opportunity for artisans, artists, and artist groups to meet, exchange and learn to improve their expertise in the art of Xam singing.
At the same time, introduce to the domestic public and foreign tourists the potential, socio-economic strengths and scenic spots, historical and cultural relics of Ninh Binh province and other provinces and cities to domestic and international friends, helping to actively promote the image of the province, promoting the development of tourism economic activities.
