Opening of civil defense and defense area drills

(GLO)- On the afternoon of May 18, at the Gia Lai Provincial Military Command, the Military Region 5 Exercise Steering Committee opened the 2023 provincial civil defense and defense area exercise.

Attending the opening ceremony were Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc - Member of the Party Central Committee, Commander of Military Region 5. On the provincial leadership side, there were comrades: Ho Van Nien - Member of the Party Central Committee, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Council; Chau Ngoc Tuan - Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Head of the Provincial National Assembly Delegation; Truong Hai Long - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Rah Lan Chung - Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. Also attending the opening ceremony were leaders of the Provincial Party Committee, People's Council, People's Committee, Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of the province, Military Region 5, provincial departments, branches, localities and units.

Speaking at the opening of the exercise, Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc said: The defense zone exercise is one of the extremely important contents in building the defense zone; it is specific and highly comprehensive; it is related to all political, socio-economic, national defense and security fields of the locality. Through the exercise, it aims to improve the leadership capacity of the Party Committee; the direction and administration of the government; the ability to advise and coordinate the implementation of the military, police, border guards and departments, branches, sectors, and mass fronts. Thereby, ensuring the leadership, direction, and operation in handling situations to maintain political security and social order and safety, defeating the plots of "peaceful evolution", "riotous overthrow" and defeating the enemy's war of aggression, contributing to firmly protecting the area. Lieutenant General Thai Dai Ngoc emphasized: "The forces participating in the exercise need to follow the set plan, comply with the regulations of the Steering Committee, and ensure absolute safety for people and vehicles."

Also at the ceremony, delegates watched a film about the civil defense exercise in An Khe town. Commenting on the civil defense exercise, Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee Ho Van Nien said: Civil defense has been deployed before, however, this is the first time we have deployed a civil defense exercise with live troops, so there are also difficulties and problems. However, under the direction of Military Region 5, with the close coordination of departments, branches, sectors and armed forces, the civil defense exercise has completed the proposed contents.

Through this exercise, the motto of "4 on-site" in responding to natural disasters has been promoted. The Provincial Party Secretary emphasized: "Through the exercise, it helps to improve the leadership, management capacity of local Party committees and authorities and the role of the front of mass organizations and armed forces in responding to natural disasters and search and rescue. At the same time, through the exercise, localities need to study and learn from experience in operating mechanisms, promoting combined strength, and mobilizing resources to respond to future natural disasters."

On this occasion, the provincial Steering Committee for the exercise also presented gifts and commended the units that had successfully completed the civil defense exercise.
