Opening of the Congress of Delegates of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City

On the morning of October 2, the 12th Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City, term 2024-2029, officially opened with the participation of more than 420 delegates representing all walks of life.

The opening session was attended by Mr. Nguyen Ho Hai, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee; Mr. Nguyen Phuoc Loc, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City, along with members of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council, representatives of the Standing Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee and former leaders of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City in different periods.

This congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City has the theme "Promoting the strength of great national unity, strengthening democracy, competing to build and develop a civilized, modern, and humane Ho Chi Minh City". During the 2-day congress, delegates will assess the situation of all classes of people and the great national unity bloc in the past term.

In the first working session, the congress will approve the summary report of the activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2019-2024 term; the directions, goals, and action programs of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2029 term. Delegates will also clarify the achievements, models, methods, new factors, and review the limitations and shortcomings, draw out the causes and lessons learned.

The congress will hold a solemn session in the afternoon of the same day. It is expected that Mr. Do Van Chien, Politburo member, Chairman of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front, and Mr. Nguyen Van Nen, Politburo member, Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, will attend and speak at this working session.

This congress will also consult to elect members of the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City for the 2024-2029 term; consult to elect a delegation to attend the National Congress of the Vietnam Fatherland Front for the 2024-2029 term.

Before starting the first working session, delegates visited a photo exhibition on the great national unity bloc and outstanding activities of the Vietnam Fatherland Front of Ho Chi Minh City in the past term.

In the new term, the Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ho Chi Minh City plans to set 5 targets: 100% of residential areas organize the annual National Great Unity Festival, each residential area has at least 1 practical project or work serving the community; strive for over 50% of residential areas to organize cultural festivals aiming at the goal of the people, by the people, for the people and projects promoting village solidarity; mobilize support for the "For the Poor" Fund, strive to reach 650 billion VND; mobilize support for the "For the Homeland's Seas and Islands - For the Frontline of the Fatherland" Fund, strive to reach 200 billion VND; coordinate to build 50% or more of residential areas to be recognized as "Solidarity, solidarity, self-management" residential areas.
