Vivid practice, great achievements

In his opening speech, Party Central Committee member, Standing Deputy Secretary of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee Nguyen Thanh Nghi asked delegates to continue to clarify key issues such as: The value, historical significance and valuable lessons of the Great Victory of Spring 1975 in the cause of building and developing a civilized, modern and affectionate Ho Chi Minh City with the motto "Ho Chi Minh City for the whole country, the whole country for Ho Chi Minh City"; achievements in innovation and development of Ho Chi Minh City in the past 50 years (1975-2025) in various fields... In addition, the workshop needs to clarify the shortcomings and limitations in various fields; the causes that need to be overcome; practical experiences that need to be drawn and propose breakthrough tasks and solutions in the coming time.

Speaking at the conference, Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Quang Dao, former Director of the Vietnam Military History Institute (Ministry of National Defense) emphasized the everlasting values ​​of the nation and the great victory of Spring 1975. For the Vietnamese people, the great victory of Spring 1975 was a great victory, the inevitable result of the heroic struggle that our entire Party, army and people had achieved after 21 years of steadfast fighting. The great victory of Spring 1975 created everlasting values ​​with the country and the nation.

“The great victory of Spring 1975 proved the truth that “Nothing is more precious than independence and freedom”, affirming the belief of the entire Party, people and army of Vietnam in Ho Chi Minh's ideology”, Major General, Associate Professor, Dr. Vu Quang Dao affirmed.

Associate Professor, Dr. Phan Xuan Bien, Vice President of the Vietnam Historical Science Association, former Head of the Ideology and Culture Committee of the Ho Chi Minh City Party Committee, emphasized that Saigon - Gia Dinh City is the only locality honored to be named Ho Chi Minh City (since 1976). Ho Chi Minh City is the second locality (along with Hanoi) to be awarded the title "Heroic City" by the State. This shows that Ho Chi Minh City has achieved many great achievements after 50 years of construction, protection and development.

First of all, Ho Chi Minh City has been dynamic, creative, overcoming difficult times, finding new development paths. In 2002, Resolution No. 20-NQ/TU of the Politburo emphasized: “Ho Chi Minh City is the largest city in our country, a major center of economy, culture, science and technology, a hub of international exchange, and has an important political position in the country”.

Dr. Le Huu Phuoc, former Vice President of the University of Social Sciences and Humanities (Ho Chi Minh City National University) said that after 50 years of construction and development, Ho Chi Minh City has achieved many great achievements, especially in the economic field.

“If in the first 20 years after the renovation, Resolution No. 01-NQ/TU and Resolution No. 20-NQ/TU of the Politburo determined that Ho Chi Minh City would “gradually become an industrial center,
services, science, technology of the Southeast Asian region", "increasingly contributing to the Southern region and the whole country"; then with Resolution No. 16-NQ/TU of the Politburo, the city was elevated to the status of "a special urban area, leading the way in the cause of industrialization and modernization"; as "a locomotive, a driving force, with great attraction and influence of the Southern Key Economic Zone", "gradually becoming a major center of economics, finance, trade, science, technology of the country and the Southeast Asian region". With Resolution No. 31-NQ/TU of the Politburo, the city's position became even more important, both "maintaining the role of a major economic center of the whole country", and "soon becoming an economic, financial, service center... of the Southeast Asian region and Asia, with global competitiveness", Dr. Le Huu Phuoc emphasized.

According to former Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and former Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council Pham Phuong Thao, nowhere has there been such a vivid practice of innovation as in Ho Chi Minh City, especially since the 1986 renovation. However, the city still has many bottlenecks, the biggest of which is the institution. Comrade Pham Phuong Thao believes that with solidarity, creativity, and unanimity, the city will achieve new miracles in the future.

Continuing the mission "For the whole country"

Concluding the workshop, Member of the Party Central Committee, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Duoc assessed: The workshop has a very profound meaning, taking place in the context that the city is preparing to organize the 12th Party Congress, towards the 14th National Congress of the Party; urgently arranging and streamlining the political system and celebrating the 50th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification (April 30, 1975 - April 30, 2025).

Comrade Nguyen Van Duoc emphasized that one of the most important lessons of our Party is to promote the strength of national solidarity, to “skillfully” promote the human factor, and the consistent ideology of “the revolutionary cause is of the people, by the people and for the people”. Over the past 50 years, Ho Chi Minh City has always promoted this important lesson, mobilizing material and spiritual resources to build and develop the city named after beloved President Ho Chi Minh, worthy of the noble title “Heroic City”.

“Over the past 50 years, the Party’s correct leadership has been the leading factor determining victory, a matter of principle and law of the socialist revolution in the past and has special significance in the current context. The City Party Committee has paid special attention to and persistently improved the effectiveness of Party building, political system building and mass mobilization work; strived to study and follow Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality and style, promoted honesty, sense of responsibility, and close attachment to the people; united in will and action, and determined to build a clean and strong Party,” said comrade Nguyen Van Duoc.

140 submissions, 8 presentations at the workshop and 1 direct speech have contributed significantly to the summary of many valuable lessons that are both theoretical, scientific and regular, showing the flexibility, dynamism, creativity and sensitivity over 50 years of construction, development and integration of the city. Thereby, the workshop contributed more enthusiasm, intelligence and direction of action for the city to develop more strongly, contributing more to the cause of building, protecting and developing the country in the new period.
