In recent times, along with focusing on growing medicinal plants for economic development, members have focused on growing medicinal herbs that are frequently used in oriental medicine prescriptions to supply to clinics and traditional medicine clinics throughout the province.
Speaking to reporters, Mr. Tran Van Luyen, Head of the Dinh Son medicinal herb cooking village, said that Cam Nghia commune is famous for producing medicinal herbs. Currently, members of the village have nearly 50 hectares of medicinal herbs, mainly herbs such as: an xoa, dinh lang, ca gai leo, giao co lam, trinh nu hoang cung... "After harvesting, we bring the medicinal herbs to the market in the form of medicinal herbs, the rest will be provided to clinics and traditional medicine clinics. Medicinal herbs have high medicinal value, are benign, and are important ingredients in some oriental medicine prescriptions. With the source of raw materials available right in the province, oriental medicine doctors can more conveniently examine and prescribe medicine for patients," said Mr. Luyen.
Not only Cam Lo, in Trieu Phong district, the development of medicinal herb gardens and medicinal herb gardens to support the examination and treatment of oriental medicine is also of special interest to the members. Along with the examination and treatment of diseases, the district Oriental Medicine Association also promotes the restoration of model medicinal herb gardens at the district level and commune health stations to propagate to the community how to use them. Thereby, mobilizing people to grow medicinal herbs at home for use when needed, contributing to the implementation of national standards on health. The effectiveness of the propaganda campaigns is that up to now, many households have grown and processed medicinal herbs on a fairly large area.
Chairman of the Traditional Medicine Association of Trieu Phong District, Luong Minh Tri, said: “The role of traditional medicine in modern medicine is not only limited to treating diseases but also extends to improving health and preventing diseases. Traditional medicine recipes made from natural, benign medicinal herbs are increasingly chosen by local people.”
The Quang Tri Province Oriental Medicine Association currently has 619 members with 78 clinics. The examination and treatment activities of Oriental Medicine members at the clinics are maintained regularly, attracting many patients. Many difficult diseases are effectively treated such as: sequelae of paralysis due to cerebrovascular accident, bronchial asthma, herniated disc of the spine, polyarthritis, hepatitis, nephritis...
In recent times, the association has built medicinal herb gardens in 95 commune and ward health stations in the province to introduce common medicinal plants, helping people to use them conveniently. These include plants used to treat common diseases such as diarrhea, acne, joint pain, fever, liver diseases; along with many plants with high medicinal value such as ginseng; Gynostemma pentaphyllum; Solanum procumbens; bitter melon...
At the same time, implement the project to develop medicinal herb areas in Vinh Linh and Cam Lo districts; organize the purchase of traditional medicinal herbs in many localities, thereby connecting the producers, purchasers, and processors of medicinal herbs with consumers.
In order to develop medicinal herb growing areas more strongly and create raw materials for oriental medicine examination and treatment, most recently, the Oriental Medicine Association of Quang Tri province has implemented Plan No. 197/KH-UBND, dated October 11, 2024 of the Provincial People's Committee on the Master Plan for developing medicinal herbs in Quang Tri province until 2026, with a vision to 2030 to all members.
Doctor CK II Tran Quoc Dinh, Chairman of the Quang Tri Province Oriental Medicine Association, said that treating diseases with traditional medicine has many benefits. Every year, the number of patients coming for treatment at clinics and diagnosis in the area reaches over 102 thousand patients. Medicinal plants are benign, have no side effects, if used properly and long-term, they will greatly support the treatment and care of diseases, especially medicinal plants are very easy to grow and care for.
In order to contribute to the development and preservation of precious medicinal resources, in recent times, the Provincial Oriental Medicine Association has always actively mobilized and encouraged all levels of associations and members in the province to focus on building, developing and expanding medicinal herb gardens.
In order for the medicinal herb garden to develop and effectively promote its use as medicine for people, the provincial traditional medicine associations regularly take care of, cultivate and collect many types of medicinal plants used to treat different diseases to bring back and plant.
Through daily medical examination and treatment activities, many doctors and officials of the Oriental Medicine Association regularly instruct people on the effects of each type of plant in disease prevention and treatment; at the same time, they encourage people to bring plants home to propagate and plant in their gardens for convenient use.
“To effectively promote the medicinal herb gardens, in the coming time, the provincial traditional medicine associations will continue to promote propaganda work, raising people's awareness of the benefits of medical examination and treatment with traditional medicine. At the same time, instruct people on how to use, grow and care for some common medicinal plants at home to proactively treat diseases. Thereby contributing to promoting the effectiveness of folk remedies, preserving precious medicinal plant varieties, and improving the effectiveness of protecting and taking care of people's health,” said Mr. Dinh.
