Ha Tinh More than 2,300 students from kindergarten to junior high school in Huong Khe had to stay home from school due to pink eye.
On the afternoon of September 13, Mr. Phan Quoc Thanh, Head of the Department of Education and Training of Huong Khe district, said that he had directed 63 schools in the area to proactively let students stay home when they are diagnosed with pink eye. This is to help them recover quickly and avoid spreading the disease to their friends at school.
"Students are off school until they recover, usually a few days. When students return to class, schools are responsible for testing their knowledge and planning remedial teaching," said Mr. Thanh.
Specialized units are guiding schools to proactively prevent the spread of pink eye. When detecting students with symptoms of the disease, parents must be notified immediately to take them to a medical facility for examination and treatment.

Mr. Nguyen Chi Thanh, Director of the Center for Disease Control of Ha Tinh province, said that since the beginning of September, the pink eye epidemic has spread to 13 districts, towns and cities, with thousands of people infected, of which Huong Khe has the most with more than 5,000 cases.
"When you have pink eye, you need to maintain good personal hygiene, avoid rubbing your eyes, and avoid sharing towels with others. Patients must wear masks regularly and avoid crowded places," said Mr. Thanh.
According to the leader of the Department of Education and Training of Ha Tinh province, the Department has no policy to allow students to take time off to treat pink eye. This will be decided by each locality.
To date, Huong Khe is the first district in Ha Tinh to let students stay home from school to prevent pink eye.
Currently, many provinces and cities are experiencing outbreaks of pink eye, with Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City recording thousands of cases.
