In the cold weather, the pink color of the blooming hibiscus flowers in Mu Cang Chai is even more brilliant, embellishing the picture of the highlands.
Since mid-December 2023, the thick-flowered flowers have been in full bloom, dyeing the forests and hillsides in every village and hamlet in Mu Cang Chai district, Yen Bai province bright pink.
The “to day” flower or “păng to day” in the Mong language means wild peach blossom, and is considered one of the winter symbols of Mu Cang Chai. The flower usually blooms during the Mong people’s traditional New Year, about a month before the traditional Lunar New Year.
The flowers are thick with five petals, slender and longer than peach blossoms. The colder the weather, the deeper the pink color of the flowers. The most beautiful time of the flowers is about 10 days from the beginning of blooming. If later, the flowers will wither on the branches, the tree will begin to sprout buds and leaves.
Arriving in Mu Cang Chai on January 22, Nguyen Tran Hieu, 28 years old, Ho Chi Minh City said that the flowers were blooming on the roads in the center of the district.
The thick plum trees were bare, only the pink color of the flowers covered the branches and twigs. “In the cold and gloomy scenery of winter days, the deep pink color of the plum flowers added vitality to the scene,” he said.
The Datura flower is naturally distributed in Mu Cang Chai and grows at an altitude of over 1,000 m above sea level. According to Mr. Vang A Thao, a tour guide in Mu Cang Chai, the Datura flower blooms according to its distribution altitude. The plants in higher areas bloom first, the plants in lower areas bloom later, so La Pan Tan commune is the area where the flowers bloom earliest.
Currently, the flowers have bloomed in many places such as Pu Nhu village (photo), La Pan Tan commune and the center of Mu Cang Chai district. In addition, some other places have many thick plum trees such as Thao Chua Chai village, Che Cu Nha commune, Mi Hang village, Mo De commune and Lao Chai commune.
Due to the nature of his work, Mr. Trung Vu, from Hanoi, often has business trips to Mu Cang Chai. He said that about 10 days ago, the flowers of the Pu Nhu village began to bloom.
Below the resort is a field of buckwheat flowers that are also blooming, creating a unique natural picture.
