Megan Young's actions have made Lesego Chombo's fans unhappy, even angry on many forums. Opinions say that she is disrespectful and culturally offensive because the act of stroking hair is taboo for women in Botswana, and Africa in general.

On March 11, Megan Young explained the incident on her personal page with more than five million followers, saying that her actions were to show concern and not to offend. However, Megan Young admitted that she did not have a comprehensive cultural perspective, leading to her inappropriate actions.

"I would like to apologize to those who witnessed the incident. My actions were thoughtless and disrespectful, and I will take responsibility. I affirm that I did not intend to invade personal space or intentionally make others uncomfortable. I deeply regret that and will try not to repeat it in the future," said Miss World 2013.

Megan Young added that she spoke privately with Lesego Chombo at the hotel after the final, apologizing to her.
