Make it easy for parents
In the 2024-2025 school year, the Hanoi Department of Education and Training will maintain two forms of enrollment in the first grades (preschool, grade 1, grade 6), including online enrollment and direct enrollment.
According to Lao Dong, the enrollment work was completed on schedule, there was no longer the scene of jostling and queuing to submit applications like in previous years.
Ms. Pham Thao Phuong (Cau Giay District, Hanoi) is a parent whose child will enter first grade this year. At the end of May, when reading the announcement about the admission process and the process of preparing documents to register for first grade in the 2024-2025 school year, Ms. Phuong was a bit worried about the "problem" of registration, so she planned to go to school to register online. However, after a period of time when Hanoi opened the online registration portal for parents to register for a trial, Ms. Thao Phuong completed the steps proficiently and decided to register online.
"The registration system is stable and easy to use. The kindergarten also has a working group to support parents whose children have graduated and are preparing to enter first grade, so the process is very convenient," Ms. Phuong shared.
Ms. Nguyen Phuong Hoa - Principal of Vinh Tuy Primary School (Hai Ba Trung District, Hanoi) - shared that the school's enrollment this year was smooth and easy for parents to handle.
Accordingly, although parents can register online, the school has prepared facilities, arranged reception desks, assigned teachers to be on duty, guided and supported parents during the registration process, promptly answered questions, and helped parents complete their children's enrollment within the time specified by the city.
“During the enrollment period, the school's Admissions Council will compile a list of students applying for the 2024-2025 school year, compare it with the list of children surveyed in the area, based on evidence of residential information (proactively provided by parents), coordinate with Vinh Tuy ward police to review and verify. After receiving the verification results from the police, for invalid cases, the school's Admissions Council will refuse to accept the application and notify the student's parents or guardians so that the student's parents or guardians can contact and register for admission at the appropriate school, ensuring compliance with regulations" - Ms. Hoa informed.
Resolving school overload
Hoang Mai is the most populous district in the city with more than 700,000 people, including more than 100,000 school-age students, an average annual mechanical increase of about 4,000 students.
According to the Department of Education and Training, school overload only occurs locally in some densely populated areas. To solve this problem, the Department has strongly directed schools to increase infrastructure investment and promote the application of information technology to organize online enrollment from the 2024-2025 school year in all schools. This solution aims to increase transparency, publicity and fairness, and resolve the phenomenon of parents lining up to submit enrollment applications at some schools as happened in the previous year's enrollment period.
According to Mr. Tran The Cuong - Director of the Hanoi Department of Education and Training, in the 2023-2024 school year, Hanoi has built 36 new schools at all levels, ensuring the learning needs of students. However, with the pressure from the increase in the mechanical population, the number of students increases sharply every year, Hanoi faces many difficulties and challenges in the work of primary school enrollment.
This is one of the limitations and shortcomings that the Department has frankly identified and has recently implemented many solutions to overcome. The Department has advised the city's leaders to increase investment resources, prioritize land funds for school construction; propose specific mechanisms for densely populated areas; review and supplement the school network planning; adjust the annual enrollment route to suit the increasing number in each area.
