Dr. Danny Tan – a famous Singaporean artist, considers his time in Vietnam to carry out art projects as a wonderful journey to discover the scale and depth of Vietnamese culture.

A multi-talented artist and a leader in the arts and culture sector, Dr Danny Tan is considered a successful ambassador in bringing artists from different artistic cultures together, including Vietnamese dance. He is currently the Artistic Director and CEO of Odyssey Dance Theatre (ODT Ltd), Singapore.
Ambassador of art
Dr. Danny Tan has over 30 years of experience in art direction, staging, choreography, dance, lighting engineering and production of performing arts programs.
With his rich experience, he has built collaborative networks with many international organizations and artists, and has many groundbreaking initiatives in the fields of dance and art.
His and ODT Ltd's extensive and ongoing activities have contributed to the success of hundreds of arts events and festivals in 50 countries across all continents.
For Danny Tan, dance or art plays a very important role, like a messenger capable of connecting, narrowing the gap between cultural differences and identity diversity.
He always believes that mutual understanding and respect for diverse cultural heritage will help projects succeed, promoting world peace through interesting and meaningful cultural and artistic activities.
In recent years, Dr. Danny Tan has been actively involved in the arts in Vietnam, with a special focus on developing contemporary art.
He visited many cities in Vietnam, sharing and interacting with many artists, dance troupes, and theaters in many roles such as educator, choreographer, festival director, and artistic director.
For him, it is a wonderful journey to discover the scale and depth of Vietnamese culture. He organizes many programs and projects to promote new artistic creations as well as support young artists.
The workshops, seminars and training programs he leads help Vietnamese artists improve their skills and stay updated with the latest art trends.
This support not only contributes to improving the quality of art but also creates a creative environment, encouraging innovation and experimentation. He shared his joy in seeing Vietnamese dancers and choreographers becoming more mature and professional.
In 2019, Danny Tan organized the Xposition 'O' Contemporary Dance Festival in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of the Ho Chi Minh City Symphony & Ballet Orchestra, Bong Sen Dance & Music Group, Saigon Contemporary & Ballet Dance Company (SCBC Vietnam) and ODT Ltd.
In 2022, he successfully organized the DanzINC Festival in Ho Chi Minh City with the participation of many Vietnamese artist groups and ODT Ltd.
Since 2022, he has regularly appeared in Vietnam as a consultant for art programs; Organized contemporary dance workshops; Opened advanced classes to train and develop SCBC Vietnam and exchange art with dance artists in Hanoi, Hoi An and Ho Chi Minh City...
“By organising Singapore contemporary dance festivals in Ho Chi Minh City and Hoi An, I feel that Vietnamese art has great potential to shine in the world. I can feel the strong urge of Vietnamese artists and organisations,” said Dr Danny Tan.
They are striving for excellence in unique ways, attracting their followers. Vietnamese dance is full of surprises, potential and in the coming time, they will be the leading force in Asia with infrastructure and talent enhanced in all aspects.
I hope to strengthen relationships with more organisations and artists, and continue to bring unique arts and culture to teach, perform and exhibit in Vietnam. I also hope to have more opportunities to work with state-run theatres and artists, and strive to connect the arts scene of Singapore and Vietnam more closely.”

He creates many opportunities for Vietnamese artists to exchange, share experiences and cooperate with international artists, not only helping to strengthen the connection between artists but also contributing to the formation of a diverse and rich artistic community.
Not only is he an event organizer and cultural connector, Dr. Danny Tan also has deep feelings about the country, culture, and people of Vietnam. His personal experiences help him better understand the characteristics of Vietnamese culture and actively contribute to the development of cultural and artistic activities here.
According to Mr. Danny Tan, one of the most attractive things about Vietnam is the richness and diversity of its culture.
He believes that Vietnam possesses an extremely valuable cultural treasure, from long-standing traditional art forms such as water puppetry, tuong, cheo, cai luong... to modern art styles.
His hands-on experiences participating in cultural activities and meeting local people have helped him gain a deeper understanding of the harmonious blend of traditional and modern elements in Vietnamese culture.
Danny Tan was particularly impressed by the hospitality and community spirit of the Vietnamese people. He felt the warmth and friendliness in social relationships here.
According to him, community spirit and strong bonds between individuals and families are outstanding features of Vietnamese society.
