“Red Journey” connects Vietnamese blood

“Red Journey” is a voluntary blood donation program across Vietnam organized annually with a route stretching from North to South to carry out the mission of “Connecting Vietnamese blood”. In Phu Tho province, with the participation of the entire political system, after 9 years of participating in the “Red Journey” program, it has changed awareness, created a profound effect in society, attracted the participation of voluntary blood donation (VBD) of many classes of people, especially cadres, civil servants, officials of agencies, armed forces, youth union members and volunteers, contributing to making the program the most effective and successful National Campaign in the VBD movement of the whole country.

Red Journey - The largest blood donation campaign in Vietnam is the National Blood Donation Campaign with the mission of "Connecting Vietnamese Blood" which was first organized in 2013, an effective solution to overcome the shortage of blood for treatment, especially during the summer. Through organizing blood donation campaigns across the country, up to now, "Red Journey" has built a large network of blood donors, creating an invaluable resource for the health sector in treating patients. Millions of volunteers participating in blood donation have created conditions for everyone to share, help, show love and solidarity among members of the community.

Over the years, Phu Tho province has always actively responded to the "Red Journey" Program and is considered the leading province in the Northern Midlands and Mountains region in the blood donation movement. Through 9 times of participating in the Program, the province has mobilized over 40,000 people to participate in blood donation and received more than 28,000 blood units, the rate of blood donors reaching about 1.3% of the population. Thanks to that, the serious blood shortage has been overcome, serving emergency and treating patients at medical facilities. From the movement, many outstanding individuals have directly participated in blood donation many times and mobilized friends and relatives to participate in blood donation. These are beautiful flowers, contributing to beautifying the flower garden of good people and good deeds in the province's patriotic emulation movement.

Every year, in the Program, the Provincial Red Cross Society coordinates with the National Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion to organize the Blood Donation Festival “Red Drops of the Homeland” in response to the “Red Journey”. The Blood Donation Festival in districts, cities and towns in the province has attracted thousands of cadres, civil servants, officials of agencies, armed forces, youth union members and volunteers to participate.

Comrade Nguyen Khanh Toan - Vice Chairman of the Provincial Red Cross Society said: "In recent times, with the participation of the entire political system, we have disseminated to all levels of the people the noble meaning of voluntary blood donation, contributing to raising awareness of voluntary blood donation and safe blood donation; arousing the tradition of humanity of the nation, gradually turning the voluntary blood donation movement into a regular activity in all localities in the province. This is an activity with profound humanitarian meaning, contributing to raising awareness of all levels, sectors and people to continue to uphold the sense of responsibility, demonstrate compassion, noble deeds, actively participate in voluntary blood donation registration, and solve the shortage of blood in treatment and emergency care for patients".

In 2024, the "Red Journey" Program will be organized in 51 provinces and cities. In Phu Tho, the province participated in organizing the Program with the theme "Red Drops of the Ancestral Land", which was carried out in many localities, units and enterprises from June 5 to July 31. It has disseminated knowledge about blood to over 10,000 people, through official blood donation days responding to the "Red Journey" and fixed blood donation points with more than 4,000 people registering to donate blood and receiving a total of over 3,400 units of blood. Every year, many collectives and individuals have been awarded by the "Red Journey" Organizing Committee, the Steering Committee for Blood Donation Movement at all levels and localities for their many positive contributions to the blood donation movement...

“Red Journey” - a journey connecting hearts and connecting Vietnamese blood has profound humanistic meaning, carrying the noble gesture and kindness of Vietnamese people, lighting up the life source for terminally ill patients.
