Although the super planes left 3 days ago, many tourists and residents of the Han River city were still overwhelmed when they witnessed 5 private jets from the world-famous Gulfstream airline gathering at Da Nang airport.
Gulfstream luxury jet at Da Nang airport, October 17
Once owned by billionaires like Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Jeff Bezos or famous players with shocking spending habits like Cristiano Ronaldo, Messi, Gulfstream has become a legend in the world's luxury aviation industry.
After the Air Show at Van Don Airport (Quang Ninh) in 2022, this is the second time the famous Gulfstream aircraft company has landed in Vietnam with private jets for the super-rich. The private jets that have made Gulfstream famous worldwide include: G600, G500, G650ER and especially the G700, which was just launched this year, lined up on the parking lot of Da Nang airport, attracting the attention of many people both inside and outside the aviation industry. The Gulfstream G650ER's fully equipped interior with high-quality materials; a bed for 10 people on the G700 with a biological lighting system with 20,000 uniquely crafted LED lights and 65,000 brightness levels for bosses to recreate sunlight as they wish; or the super-luxurious kitchen area only available on the G700 private jet... immediately spread at a dizzying speed on aviation forums. Among them, the G650ER continues to affirm its position as a star with the ability to fly farther and faster than any other private jet, even being able to fly around the world with just one stop. This is also the private jet that brought billionaire Bill Gates to Vietnam in March this year.
“I never expected that one day I would witness these “monsters” of aviation right at an airport in Vietnam. And not just one, but five. This is something that all of us who are passionate about airplanes have always dreamed of and are extremely proud of,” said TQK, a veteran airplane photographer.
More specifically, 5 legendary Gulfstream private jets carried 50 billionaire customers from all over the world and Gulfstream's operating partners to Da Nang to attend the annual customer conference of this billionaire aircraft brand. This is an opportunity for the airline's potential customers to enjoy a classy flight experience, to explore the newest and most luxurious aircraft models right in Vietnam - a beautiful country that is gradually asserting its position on the global luxury aviation map.
Gulfstream representative said that Vietnam was chosen as the destination for this year's customer conference not only because of its beautiful landscape, but also because of its convenient location for the private jet company to invite and welcome potential customers around the world. In particular, for Gulfstream, Vietnam is a country with great potential, so expanding the market in Vietnam with Sun Air is an important part of the company's Asia-Pacific market development strategy. With Gulfstream's focus on developing the Vietnamese market, Vietnam is gradually positioning itself as an emerging market in Asia and affirming its position on the world's premium aviation map.
Towards the world aviation center
Before being chosen by the world's most luxurious airline, Vietnam's aviation industry had cherished the goal of becoming a regional and world-class aviation hub. In meetings with government leaders, billionaire Nguyen Thi Phuong Thao, Chairwoman of Sovico Group and Chairwoman of Vietjet, shared her aspiration to turn Vietnam into a driving force for regional and world aviation development.
The G650ER of the super rich, with the ability to fly farther and faster than any private jet, appeared in Da Nang recently.
Vietnam possesses many advantages to become an aviation "hub" of the region and the world.
According to Ms. Phuong Thao, Vietnam has a favorable position to become an international passenger and cargo transit center such as Bangkok (Thailand), Singapore, South Korea, etc. In addition, we have the conditions and capacity to build a hangar system (aircraft hangar) as infrastructure for a regional-scale aircraft technical service center at one of Vietnam's airports. Vietnamese enterprises have also begun to produce aircraft components. With a large number of aircraft orders, this female billionaire assessed that Vietnam has the conditions to become a component manufacturing center and develop the aircraft assembly and support industry like China is producing Boeing aircraft components and assembling Airbus aircraft. To bring this future closer, Vietnam needs to urgently invest in and upgrade the international airport system.
Sharing the same vision, a representative of ITL, one of the leading logistics corporations in Vietnam, said that in recent years, although the world has recorded many fluctuations, Vietnam has maintained a good GDP growth momentum, helping to promote the demand for goods consumption and air transport. Vietnam has participated in more and more bilateral and multilateral free trade agreements, helping our country's export turnover grow impressively. At the same time, we are currently the leading producer and exporter in the region of garments, leather shoes, wooden furniture, electronics, seafood, agricultural products, etc. With this production foundation, supply chains in the region will choose Vietnam as a transit point, collecting goods to supply the market.
“Since the US-China trade tensions broke out and escalated, Vietnam has gradually become the focal point of choice for large-scale enterprises and manufacturing units. In the context of large economic groups looking for new addresses for production and business activities instead of China, Vietnam will have the opportunity to become a leading destination. In fact, recently, large corporations such as Google, Amazon, Microsoft, TCL, Brooks Sports... have simultaneously implemented production operation plans in Vietnam. Obviously, the positive shift of this large customer source creates a stable demand for the process of forming Air logistics hubs (air logistics centers) in Vietnam. These are great advantages for us to become a large-scale air logistics center in Southeast Asia,” the ITL representative acknowledged.
The Tan Son Nhat – Long Thanh airport complex, which is being invested in and expanded, is a powerful “weapon” that economist Huynh Thanh Dien added to the list of Vietnam’s advantages. According to Mr. Dien, Vietnam is one of the countries with the highest growth in the aviation market in the region, but there has never been an airport large enough or capable of serving as a regional or international transit airport. Currently, this task is in the hands of “big guys” such as Hong Kong, Singapore, and Thailand.
Right from the beginning of the project, Long Thanh International Airport project was identified as one of the top 16 most anticipated airport projects in the world. In the first phase, Long Thanh will play the role of "sharing the fire" with Tan Son Nhat, relieving congestion both in the sky and on the ground. After completing the planning to reach the capacity of 100 million passengers/year, Long Thanh International Airport will replace Tan Son Nhat, becoming the largest airport in the country. If Long Thanh is invested and built according to the original goal and operates and connects well, Ho Chi Minh City will become a destination, sharing a part of the transit passengers, first of all some countries in the Indochina peninsula, then gradually expanding to the continent and the world.
Along with Vietnam becoming an attractive destination for large industrial corporations in the world, the domestic aviation market is expected to increase very high in the coming time. Along with Tan Son Nhat International Airport, Long Thanh International Airport will be a driving force to help the aviation industry develop commensurate with the industrial and economic potential of Ho Chi Minh City in particular and the whole country in general. Tan Son Nhat - Long Thanh airport cluster is expected to be completed in the period of 2025 - 2026 when the difficulties of the world economy are expected to recede, becoming an important infrastructure to help Ho Chi Minh City, the southern provinces as well as the Vietnamese logistics industry take the lead in development. These two port clusters are the "weapons" to turn Vietnam into one of the aviation centers of the region, promoting the competitiveness of the Vietnamese aviation industry in the international arena, economic expert Huynh Thanh Dien emphasized.
Destination for “global figures”
Behind the convergence of the world's leading luxury airlines, the tourism industry benefits first. Coming to Vietnam this time, Gulfstream's guests chose to stay at the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort.
This is a resort that has been honored as “world’s leading luxury” for 3 consecutive years, and was the place chosen by leaders at the APEC Summit 2017, as well as billionaire Bill Gates during his second return to Vietnam after 18 years. At that time, Da Nang also made waves in domestic and international media. Bill Gates spent 5 days in Da Nang, visited Hoi An and stayed at a luxurious 5-star resort in Son Tra District. BNN Breaking commented that the return of billionaire Bill Gates after 18 years is “proof of the increasing attractiveness of Vietnam as a tourist destination for global figures”.
In fact, more than a decade ago, Da Nang welcomed 120 tycoons and investors from many countries to attend a financial conference that took place over 3 days in November 2013. These billionaires came to Da Nang on 19 expensive private planes and a charter flight from Singapore. The 19 planes departed from many financial and tourism centers around the world such as Saudi Arabia, Hong Kong, Singapore, the Philippines, Thailand, Indonesia, etc. During the time the billionaires were in Da Nang, all their activities from attending the conference, resting, eating and sleeping took place within the dozens of hectares of the InterContinental Danang Sun Peninsula Resort. In 2019, British billionaire Joe Lewis on the $150 million superyacht Aviva also chose Da Nang as the first stop on his journey to experience Vietnam, before going to Ho Chi Minh City, Can Tho, Phu Quoc and Ha Long.
Following the super-planes bringing billionaires to Da Nang, Quang Ninh has also begun preparations for the Arts for Climate Festival taking place from January 13 to 19, 2025 in Ha Long Bay. According to the Quang Ninh Provincial Information Portal, more than 80,000 people, including 200 European billionaires, will attend the festival. The billionaires will arrive in Ha Long by super yacht, creating a highlight for the event and attracting the attention of the international community.
Previously, at the end of August 2024, a group of 4,500 guests from the pharmaceutical company Sun Pharmaceutical of an Indian billionaire came to Vietnam for tourism. They divided into many small groups to visit Hanoi on different days, stayed at high-end hotels and had a tour of Hanoi - Ninh Binh - Ha Long. Since the "most anticipated wedding of 2019" of the Indian billionaire at the JW Marriott Phu Quoc Hotel on March 8, 2019, over the past half decade, many destinations in Vietnam have gradually caught the eye of tycoons, opening up the potential to make Vietnam the most luxurious wedding venue in the world.
Mr. Cao Tri Dung, Chairman of the Da Nang Tourism Association, commented: Da Nang in particular and many other destinations in Vietnam are attracting great attention from the rich and super rich. In the long term, Da Nang has been positioned and fully prepared to own an ecosystem serving luxury and super luxury customers. Currently, Da Nang is continuing to attract and call for investors, as well as preparing new products and services to best meet the needs of the luxury and super luxury such as international yacht centers, high-end commercial centers, etc.
With the launch of Sun Group's luxury airline Sun Air in Vietnam in 2022, the fact that the world's most expensive private jet airline has chosen Da Nang as its base once again affirms that Vietnam has been and is an ideal destination for the world's super-rich. Recently, Vietnam was recognized by CN Traveler as one of the world's top 20 tourist destinations. According to a report by New World Wealth and Henley & Partners, Vietnam is the country with the fastest growth rate of USD millionaires, witnessing a remarkable increase of 98% from 2013 to 2023.
VN, with the investment and participation of large corporations such as Sun Group, has been providing the world's elite with an ecosystem of world-class services and experiences, from 5-star resorts, Michelin cuisine, to super expensive private jets. This luxury tourism ecosystem is creating a huge advantage for VN to attract high-spending customers around the world that not every country has.
