Two 9th grade students tragically drowned in Sa Lung River

Chairman of Vinh Ha Commune People's Committee Nguyen Van Thao said that the two drowned students were NHN (residing in Hamlet 3, Ben Quan town) and TTTN (residing in Hamlet 5, Ben Quan town, both Vinh Linh district). Both were students of class 9B2, Ben Quan Middle School and High School.

On March 26, while on a camping trip organized by the school, a group of about 5-6 students went to the Sa Lung River in Cong Ba village, Vinh Ha commune to swim. Unfortunately, two of them drowned. The area where they were swimming was far from residential areas. After discovering that their friend might have drowned, the remaining students split up to look for him and notify his family.

“At around 7 p.m. the same day, some villagers who were diving for fish in the river discovered the incident and went to a family near the river to report it. Upon receiving the information, the local authorities directed forces to organize diving to retrieve the children’s bodies. At the same time, the incident was reported to the police,” said Mr. Thao.

Vinh Ha Commune People's Committee has made a record of the incident and handed over the bodies of the two students to their families for funeral arrangements.
