Professor Ngo Bao Chau participated in the roundtable as a special guest, representing the Institute for Advanced Study in Mathematics (VIASM) to share about the topic of "science careers" at the Vietnam Science Summer School 2023.
The 10th Vietnam Science Summer School opened on the morning of August 22 at the Center for Interdisciplinary Science and Education (ICISE) in Quy Nhon City, Binh Dinh Province. This year's program has the theme "Looking Back and Moving Forward: Embracing the Past - Shaping the Future". The event is part of the "19th Meeting Vietnam 2023" program, taking place over 4 days from August 22-25.
This year, Professor Tran Thanh Van and Professor Ngo Bao Chau will have a roundtable discussion on the topic of "science profession". The roundtable will answer questions about what is science; the skills needed to be successful in science; the good and bad things about the life of a scientist; and propose suggestions for the next 10 years of summer school.

Throughout the 4 days, more than 150 students and science lovers from across the country, selected from 900 applications from many scientific fields, will attend lectures and meet with many outstanding scientists.
Students and young researchers will listen to lectures from Dr. Giap Van Duong with stories about the path to science and the scientific career from Dr. Ngo Duc The, natural science research methods from Dr. Dang Van Son. Sharing about research, publication and academic integrity from Dr. Nguyen Bao Huy, or scholarships and studying abroad from Dr. Luu Quang Trung...

In addition, new lectures aimed at embracing new science and technology trends, such as convergent science, were also shared at the event.
Professor Jean Tran Thanh Van, President of the Vietnam Rencontres du Vietnam, said the biggest goal of the summer school is to inspire young Vietnamese people to better understand science and the scientific profession, including its beauty and its difficulties and challenges, so that they can make the right decisions on their career path.
He hopes this will be an opportunity for young people to learn and meet scientists around the world to broaden their vision for the future. "I hope you always have the fire in your heart to contribute to the development of the country," said Professor Van.

Vietnam Science Summer School is a non-profit social organization, aiming to foster a love of science and train research skills for young Vietnamese people. The Science Summer School has been operating since 2013, from the first idea of three scientists including Dr. Giap Van Duong, Dr. Luu Quang Hung and Dr. Ngo Duc The. Initially, this was just an initiative of a group of young scientists, with more than 80 students participating in Course 1 at the University of Natural Sciences, Vietnam National University, Hanoi.
After 10 years of organization, there are nearly 300 former students who have graduated with doctorates, more than 600 people have graduated with master's degrees at home and abroad. Hundreds of students are now researchers, university lecturers, of which 4 former students have become assistant professors, lecturers in countries such as the US, Canada, UK...
