As the new spring is approaching, it is also the time when the forests sprout and grow, Thanh Son land and sky seem to be wearing a new coat full of vitality. Thanh Son today has spread out the immense green of acacia, eucalyptus... Under the forest canopy, new green shoots are being cherished and cared for by the people because the forest not only helps them have a stable source of income but is also a "green lung" to balance the ecological environment, protecting a healthy life.

We went to Zone 14, Tat Thang Commune - one of the areas with large forest areas in the commune and learned that, out of 55 households in the area, nearly 20 households live mainly on forest planting, with the smallest households planting 1 hectare and the largest households planting 10 hectares. Every year, people in the area plant 10-15 hectares of new forest, increasing the total existing forest area of the area to nearly 200 hectares. The area has established patrol teams to guard and protect the forest, so the quality of the forest is guaranteed and well developed. Thanks to forest planting, the lives of people in the area have changed significantly. Following the leaders of Tat Thang commune to visit Mr. Dinh Van Hien's family, a household with a large forest area in the area, we were excitedly shared by Mr. Hien: "In 2023, my family exploited 6.2 hectares of acacia and sold them for more than 400 million VND. After harvesting, the family carefully prepared the land, seedlings, fertilizers and planted forests in early 2024 on the exploited area to both green the bare land and develop the family economy. Currently, the new plants are growing well."
It is known that Tat Thang commune has nearly 800 hectares of forest, mainly planted production forests. To effectively implement the forest development target, every year, the commune has assigned forest planting targets to each residential area, and at the same time promoted propaganda to the people about the benefits of planting and developing forests, thereby attracting a large number of people to participate. On average, each year the commune plants 50-60 hectares of new forest or more. Along with forest development, Tat Thang commune also encourages people to open workshops to purchase and process planted forest wood. Currently, the whole commune has 2 workshops to process planted forest wood, these workshops not only help people sell their products but also create jobs for 20 local workers with stable income.
It can be said that forests have become a spearhead in the economic development of the commune. Mr. Dinh Quoc Toan - Vice Chairman of the Commune People's Committee said: "As one of the localities with a large forest area, the commune regularly directs sectors, organizations, residential areas, and people to focus on forest management, protection, fire prevention and fighting, ensuring a sustainable forest environment. For the exploited forest area, the commune continues to propagate and mobilize people to plant new trees. During the planting process, attention is paid to selecting seedlings from reputable seedling establishments to ensure high productivity and quality and applying scientific and technical advances to help trees grow and develop well, contributing to increasing the value of planted forests".

Saying goodbye to Tat Thang, we visited the forestry economic development model of Mr. Nguyen Van Hoa in Ben Dam area, Yen Son commune. Over a cup of hot tea, Mr. Hoa shared that his family is better off thanks to planting forests, the money to build a house, and buy other household items is also thanks to the forest. It is known that Mr. Hoa's family used to be a poor household in the area, although they worked in many jobs, their circumstances were still difficult. Realizing that forestry could develop a stable economy, he boldly planted acacia on an area of 20 hectares. In the early years when the acacia trees were still small, he planted short-term crops in between to have more food, at the same time increase the porosity of the soil and retain water, prevent erosion, and help the acacia trees grow quickly. After many years of attachment, planting and caring for forests has become the main occupation, bringing a stable income to the family.
Not only in Tat Thang or Yen Son communes, the tree planting and afforestation movement has developed widely in the communes of Thanh Son district. Every year, the people in the district have planted over 2,600 hectares of new forests, increasing the total existing forest area of the whole district to nearly 40,000 hectares, of which over 27,000 hectares are production forests, the forest cover of the whole district reaches 50.5%.
Many localities in the district also encourage households to take advantage of forest foliage to develop models of free-range chicken farming, beekeeping for honey, and medicinal plant cultivation... for high economic efficiency. Many households have applied science and technology, forming comprehensive economic models, earning hundreds of millions of VND each year. Forestry processing facilities have also gradually been formed and put into effective operation to consume products for forest growers, while solving jobs for many surplus workers in the locality. The forest hill economy has become a positive direction in poverty reduction for people, especially in difficult areas. It can be affirmed that forests have truly become one of the great potentials, contributing effectively to promoting the economic development of Thanh Son district, bringing a prosperous and happy life to the people.
Comrade Tran Quang Hung - Head of the District Forest Protection Department said: “Forest development in Thanh Son district has had positive changes in recent years. People have been proactive in planting, caring for and protecting forests. Specialized agencies have also focused on training, transferring scientific and technical advances, and supporting people in choosing plant varieties suitable for local soil conditions. In addition, policies such as supporting seedlings and paying for forest environmental services have also been fully and promptly implemented to people. In recent years, the district has always achieved and exceeded the set targets for planting and developing forests.”
To increase the value of planted forests, people in the district compete to plant trees and afforest so that Thanh Son forest becomes greener and more sustainable. Walking under the spring forests, young green leaves, looking at the cool green acacia hills, the forest has truly brought the local people a warm and prosperous spring.
