Tet flight ticket prices continue to be 'hot'

On December 25, information from the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam said that at the beginning of the Lunar New Year holiday (from January 21 to January 28, 2025), the booking rate on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities is increasing rapidly.

Right from the start of the holiday season, booking rates Airline ticket on flights from Ho Chi Minh City to some localities have reached 100%, such as Ho Chi Minh City to Hue, Pleiku, Tuy Hoa, Quy Nhon, Quang Binh, Thanh Hoa, Vinh...

The same goes for flights from the localities to Ho Chi Minh City after the Tet holiday. However, in the opposite direction, the booking rate is very low, only from 5-30% depending on the route and day. airline have to fly many empty flights (ferries) to pick up/drop off passengers.

Notably, up to this point, some main routes such as Ho Chi Minh City - Da Nang, Hanoi, Hanoi - Da Nang, Ho Chi Minh City, there are still many seats available during the peak Tet period from January 25 to February 2, 2025 (ie December 26 to January 5 of the lunar calendar), reaching an average of 35-40%. Particularly on January 25, 2025, the flight route Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi has a high rate of over 80%.

Ticket price statistics show that flights carrying workers, students and people from Ho Chi Minh City to other localities for Tet are increasing rapidly.

Before Tet, the Ho Chi Minh City - Hanoi route cost up to nearly 7.5 million VND/round trip ticket if flying Vietnam Airlines, 7 - 7.36 million VND when flying Vietjet, 6.3 - 7 million VND when flying Vietravel Airlines.

Flights from Ho Chi Minh City to Vinh, Thanh Hoa, Hai Phong... are also quite expensive. However, the prices of empty flights are very low, from only a few hundred thousand to more than 1 million VND/round trip ticket.

According to the Civil Aviation Authority, the difference in ticket prices is largely due to the increased demand for travel home for Tet in the northern provinces, causing one-way ticket prices from the South to the North to be higher than the opposite direction. After the Tet holiday, ticket prices from the northern and central provinces to Ho Chi Minh City have changed, in the opposite direction.

This agency has just adjusted to increase the parameters for coordinating take-off and landing times (slots) at the airport. Tan Son Nhat Tet holiday. Specifically, from January 21 to February 9, 2025, the number of flights taking off and landing will be increased to 48 flights/hour during the day and 46 flights/hour at night.
