Durian prices on March 26, 2025 continued to remain stable in all three main regions: the Southwest, Southeast and Central Highlands, with no significant fluctuations compared to the morning of the same day and yesterday (March 25, 2025). In the Southwest, the price of beautiful RI6 durian fluctuated from 140,000 - 144,000 VND/kg, the bulk-purchased type remained at 60,000 - 70,000 VND/kg, while the price of beautiful Thai durian reached 177,000 - 180,000 VND/kg and the bulk-purchased type was from 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg.

The Southeast recorded similar prices for RI6, but the price of Thai durian in good condition was slightly higher at 178,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, while the price of the bucket type fluctuated from 65,000 - 78,000 VND/kg. In the Central Highlands, the price of Thai durian in good condition was slightly lower, from 170,000 - 180,000 VND/kg, while the price of RI6 in buckets was higher than in the other two regions, reaching 70,000 - 80,000 VND/kg.

This stability shows that the durian market is in a waiting period before the peak harvest season, with supply and demand not yet showing major fluctuations, creating favorable conditions for both buyers and sellers in the short term. However, farmers need to closely monitor market developments to prepare for the upcoming peak period.

Indonesia is aggressively expanding its durian plantations and completing legal procedures to export to China, the world’s largest durian consumer. Chinese customs officials have inspected Indonesian plantations and packing facilities, hoping to soon grant licenses to export frozen durian.

Thailand is currently the largest supplier of durian to China, accounting for 57% of total imports. Vietnam is second with 38%. Fresh durian prices in China reach 200 yuan (about 27.7 USD) for a 6kg fruit, creating an opportunity for frozen products from Indonesia.

Despite its huge potential, Indonesia will face many challenges such as supply capacity, quality and China’s strict phytosanitary standards. The country currently produces about 2 million tons of durian per year and could become a strong competitor to Vietnam and Thailand in this segment.

Meanwhile, Indonesia is stepping up durian cultivation, preparing to export frozen products to China, increasing competition in this market - where Thailand (57%) and Vietnam (38%) are leading. Indonesia, with an output of 2 million tons/year, could become a major competitor if it meets China's strict standards.
