Commodity prices remain stable after base salary increase

According to the reporter of Cong Thuong Newspaper, recently, the prices of goods at markets and supermarkets in Ho Chi Minh City such as vegetables, rice, oil, milk, fruits, meat, fish, etc. have not shown any signs of "price increase".

The average price of live pigs at the market is 62,000 - 66,000 VND/kg. The price of rice at Pham Van Hai market (Tan Binh district) is stable at 28,000 VND/kg for ST25 rice - shrimp field, 23,000 VND/kg for fragrant rice, and 27,000 VND/kg for ST24 rice.

The amount of goods arriving at Hoc Mon and Thu Duc wholesale markets in Ho Chi Minh City remains stable, with no significant price fluctuations.

Mr. Le Hoang Phong, Deputy Director of Hoc Mon Agricultural and Food Wholesale Market, said that in recent days, the wholesale pork consumption situation at the market has remained normal, with about 4,000 - 4,500 pigs arriving at the market per day, and stable vegetable, root and fruit products.

“ Wholesale markets are the main source of supply for many retail chains and supermarkets. Maintaining stable prices here plays an important role in maintaining market stability. We have worked closely with farmers and suppliers to ensure adequate supply and no major price fluctuations,” said Mr. Phong.

Prices of meat, fish, vegetables, tubers... at traditional markets remain almost unchanged.

According to records, at supermarkets, large shopping malls, convenience stores, food stores such as Co.opmart, Big C, WinMart, Aeon Mall, Bach Hoa Xanh..., the selling prices of goods basically remain unchanged. At the same time, units also launch many promotional programs, stimulate consumption, focusing mainly on essential goods, price-stabilized goods such as: Rice, livestock meat, poultry meat, some dairy products, spices... This also contributes to regulating market prices, helping consumers have more choices of products within the price range suitable for their budget.

Mr. Tran Minh Tri, a worker shopping at Aeon Mall in Thu Duc City, said: " Keeping prices stable at supermarkets really helps my family feel more secure , we can still save a significant amount of money every month."

"With income mainly coming from my husband's salary , my family is very worried every time there is a price fluctuation . Currently, many supermarket and convenience store systems have promotions and discounts , I feel much more secure when going shopping ," said Ms. Nguyen Thi Huong (District 5).

At Co.opmart and Co.opXtra shopping locations, there are currently many promotions and big discounts, some of which last until the end of the year. For example, with the program "Home-cooked meals - Quality meat", the supermarket has offered 15-20% discounts on chicken breast fillets, skinless chicken breast fillets, chicken thighs, ground pork, pork leg, and frozen Australian beef belly. In addition, fresh products are discounted by 10-30%. From July 18 to 31, Saigon Co.op will organize this program at 800 points of sale nationwide.

Ms. Le Thi Thanh Huong, an office worker shopping at Co.opmart, said: "I am also a bit worried because from July 1st , the basic salary will increase . Previously, every time the salary increased, the prices of goods also increased immediately. But in the past few days, when I came to shop here , I saw that the prices did not fluctuate. Many promotional programs were also implemented, so I feel secure."

According to economic experts, when prices are well controlled, people's purchasing power will be maintained, contributing to stimulating consumption and production. Especially with the salary increase in early July, controlling and stabilizing prices has helped people feel secure.

Therefore, the impact of the salary increase on market prices will not be too large. Prices of essential consumer goods such as food remain stable. Depending on the supply of each item and consumer demand, prices may increase slightly but will gradually stabilize according to the market.”

Ms. Ly Kim Chi - President of the Ho Chi Minh City Food Association commented: "Controlling prices in the context of increasing basic wages is a necessary measure to maintain economic stability. Many large retailers are still running many promotional programs and deep discounts to stimulate market demand.

Many businesses are trying to maintain prices by cutting costs, finding solutions in the production process to minimize costs in the context of increasing input costs.
