This morning, March 30, the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development held a meeting to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the Fisheries Industry's traditional day, April 1 (1959 - 2024). Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong attended.

In recent years, especially since the re-establishment of Quang Tri province in 1989, the fisheries sector has developed rapidly, contributing significantly to the socio-economic development of the province; gradually improving the material and spiritual life of the coastal fishing community. Aquatic product output in 2023 reached more than 35,000 tons, an increase of more than 7 times compared to 1989.
The province currently has over 2,280 fishing vessels of all kinds, with a total capacity of over 140,100 CV. Fisheries exploitation activities are promoted towards developing offshore seafood associated with patrolling, monitoring and protecting aquatic resources.
The capacity of fishing vessels has developed rapidly, especially offshore fishing vessels; equipment and fishing gear have been invested in synchronously and modernly; fishing infrastructure has been invested in and built, contributing to promoting purchasing, processing and fishing logistics services; marine conservation work has been increasingly strengthened, protecting the ecosystems around and inside the Con Co Island Marine Reserve.

Aquaculture has developed rapidly in the direction of commodity production and high technology application, especially the farming of black tiger shrimp and white-leg shrimp has had strong developments in terms of area, productivity and output.
In 2023, the aquaculture area of the whole province will reach nearly 3,400 hectares, of which the shrimp farming area will be more than 1,300 hectares, high-tech shrimp farming will be over 107 hectares. The shrimp farming output will reach nearly 8,600 tons.
Fishing infrastructure and logistics services have gradually developed, especially the system of fishing ports and storm shelters for fishing vessels has been increasingly improved.
Seafood processing develops towards commodity production; fisheries logistics services develop rapidly, especially purchasing, processing for export and domestic consumption. Many facilities and factories processing frozen seafood, surimi and fishmeal are invested in modernly with a capacity of tens of thousands of tons/year.
Speaking at the meeting, Permanent Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong sent his best wishes for health, happiness and success to all civil servants, public employees and workers in the Fisheries sector through the periods; fishermen, owners of seafood production and trading establishments in the province. Emphasizing that, besides the achieved results, the growth rate of the Fisheries sector is still not commensurate with its potential; quality and competitiveness are still limited.
To make the fisheries sector a strong economic sector of the province, the Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee Ha Sy Dong assigned the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development to continue to strengthen the dissemination of laws on fisheries, especially the 2017 Fisheries Law, and directive documents on combating illegal, unreported and unregulated fishing in the province.
Promote the development of fishing fleets with large capacity and modern, synchronous equipment; focus on supporting fishermen in technological innovation combined with vocational training and developing quality human resources.
Strengthen the application of advanced science and technology in aquaculture, especially shrimp farming in riverbanks and coastal sandy areas to create key products with high quality and economic value, meeting market demand.
Develop and replicate high-tech shrimp farming models, suitable to the characteristics of each region, and environmentally friendly.
Aiming to not use chemicals and antibiotics in all farming methods and stages in the production and consumption chain, protecting the environment for sustainable development. Supporting investment and linking to build infrastructure for concentrated shrimp farming areas and producing disease-free shrimp seeds.
Continue to promote and mobilize factories and processing facilities to continue investing in technological innovation, upgrading modern processing facility lines, ensuring food safety and hygiene, in accordance with market demand to increase value, aiming to build product brands and export.
Encourage investment in developing facilities for building and repairing fishing vessels; production and services of fishing gear, machinery, mining equipment, ice, fuel, etc.
Forming a synchronous service infrastructure, connecting supporting industries to serve well the exploitation, farming, purchasing and processing of aquatic products; gradually investing in developing, completing and supplementing planning, improving management capacity, effectively exploiting the system of fishing ports, fishing wharves, and fishing boat anchorage areas to avoid storms.
