National Shooting Team Shooter Pham Quang Huy is a familiar face to sports lovers.
The most talked about success of the young athlete is the Gold Medal in the Men's 10m Air Pistol Individual event won at the 19th ASIAD, a valuable medal that quenched the thirst for "Gold" for Vietnamese Shooting since re-integrating into the continental arena in 1982.
Young Talents of Vietnam Shooting
Pham Quang Huy was born in 1996 in Hai Phong. Since the age of 2, Huy has been living in a shooting environment at the National Sports Training Center in Hanoi because his parents trained with him in the National Shooting Team.
Quang Huy's parents are two former shooters of the National Shooting Team, Pham Cao Son and Dang Thi Hang.
Pham Quang Huy started practicing shooting in Hai Phong in 2012, specializing in pistols. In 2013, Huy officially became an athlete of Hai Phong shooting.

During his years of competing in top sports, Pham Quang Huy has won many prestigious titles that many professional athletes dream of, such as the Gold Medal at the Youth Championship, the National Championship, and his most outstanding achievement in the international arena is the Gold Medal in the 10m air pistol men's team event at the 31st Sea Games.
During the years 2015 to 2017, Huy achieved National Level 1, Reserve National Master and National Master in shooting.
In 2016, Pham Quang Huy continued to win 1 Gold Medal, 1 Silver Medal at the 2016 National Youth Championship, 1 individual Silver Medal, 2 team Gold Medals at the 2016 Southeast Asian Youth Championship.
2017 was also one of Quang Huy's very successful years when he won 4 individual Gold Medals, 2 individual Bronze Medals, 3 team Bronze Medals at the National Youth Championship; 1 individual Bronze Medal at the National Excellent Shooter Award.
Year of shining achievements
The most impressive success in Quang Huy's career so far is the Gold Medal in the 10m pistol shooting event and the Bronze Medal in the 10m air pistol team shooting event at the 19th ASIAD held in Hangzhou (China) in September 2023.
2023 also ended successfully for shooter Pham Quang Huy when he won another Bronze Medal in the men's 10m air pistol team event at the 2023 Asian Championship.
Huy was honored at the Victory Cup and became the National Outstanding Athlete of 2023, after convincingly overcoming a series of strong nominations.

At the beginning of 2024, Pham Quang Huy and female shooter Trinh Thu Vinh continued to contribute to the Vietnam Shooting Team another Gold Medal in the 10m pistol mixed pair event at the Asian Shooting Championship held in Indonesia in January.
Also at this tournament, the Shooting Team brought to Vietnam Sports another ticket to the 2024 Paris Olympics for young female shooter Le Thi Mong Tuyen in the women's air rifle category.
Sharing about his success, shooter Pham Quang Huy said: “After the success at ASIAD 19, I put all my emotions behind me because in sports, if you rest on your laurels, you will not go any further. I have had special exercises to refresh myself and prepare for upcoming tournaments. I think I am on the right track, but I will have to study, practice and make more efforts to go further.”
With his tireless efforts and series of impressive achievements, Pham Quang Huy was honored to be included in the list of 20 nominees for the 2023 Outstanding Young Vietnamese Faces Award of the Central Committee of the Ho Chi Minh Communist Youth Union.
Carrying the responsibility of winning tickets to the 2024 Paris Olympics
Looking forward to the 2024 Paris Olympics with the hope of bringing home more spots for the Vietnam Shooting Team as well as the Vietnam Sports Delegation, Pham Quang Huy is working hard to practice every day.
He shared that to best prepare for the upcoming Olympic qualifying tournament in Brazil, Huy and his teammates are focusing on intensive training with many special exercises on technical skills as well as improving physical fitness.
The successes achieved in past tournaments also brought many lessons for Huy to apply and compete better, with the highest effort being to win more Olympic tickets for the Vietnam Shooting Team.
Shooter Pham Quang Huy competed excellently to win 240.5 points in the Men's 10m Air Pistol individual event, thereby bringing the first Gold medal to the Vietnamese Sports Delegation at the 19th ASIAD.
Head Coach of the Vietnam Shooting Team Park Chung Gun commented: “The team’s current training focuses on improving techniques and competition mentality. In April, we will have another tournament in Brazil and hope we will have more Olympic spots. We aim to win as many Olympic spots as possible, in which Pham Quang Huy’s men’s 10m pistol event is a high hope. At the upcoming Olympics, the Vietnam Shooting Team will do its best to have a second Hoang Xuan Vinh for Vietnamese Sports”./.
