Quietly contribute to the homeland

According to musician Vo Dong Dien, in 2000, the Music Composition Club in Binh Duong was established. Initially, there were musicians who were passionate about music activities in Binh Duong, such as: Phan Huu Ly, Vo Dong Dien, Le Trung Hieu, Pham Dac Hien, Do Phu Thong, Tran Huu Du, Nguyen Cong Dinh, Pham Minh Thuan... This was a place for Binh Duong musicians to exchange composing experiences, "introduce" their new works, as well as organize field trips to learn and compose songs about their homeland and people of Binh Duong. Later, there were more young musicians such as Pham Thanh Phong, Toan BD... who also composed many songs about Binh Duong that were selected to perform in conferences, meetings, and performances...

Talking about this issue, Artist Phan Huu Ly confided, "Binh Duong still has a lot to write about!". Born in 1949, Artist Phan Huu Ly is a veteran among Binh Duong artists, but he is still diligently composing and editing the music section for Binh Duong Literature and Arts Magazine. His work "Love of a person far from Binh Duong land" won the Third Prize - the 8th "Binh Duong Land and People" Literary and Artistic Composition Award - 2024. "There are many good topics in Binh Duong. The new rhythm of life here is still a catalyst for artists to compose. There are many young artists newly admitted to the Vietnam Music Association and the Provincial Literature and Arts Association. I hope they will compose more good songs for the province," Artist Phan Huu Ly shared.

Born and raised in Binh Duong, his composing career is closely linked to the land and people here. Many of his songs have been well received by audiences, such as: Love the lacquer shape; Wonderful ceramics of Binh Duong; Love the city of Binh Duong; March of the armed forces of Binh Duong; Oh the river and water of Binh Duong... He also won many major awards in competitions organized by Binh Duong Radio - Television, Department of Culture, Sports and Tourism; B prize of the 3rd Huynh Van Nghe Literature and Arts Award.

Although Artist Phan Huu Ly is old, he has recently gone out less to see the bustling pace of spring and youth. However, by applying information technology, he still follows and grasps the innovation of his homeland and still works hard with musical notes, contributing to enriching the musical life of Binh Duong.

“In my heart, Binh Duong is the place that raised me, the place that gives me many emotions in artistic creation. To me, Binh Duong is more beautiful every day, because of the warm sunshine and human affection, the green of the trees and fruits, the famous lacquer and ceramics, and the oil flower petals spinning and flying in the wind, so that even if I go far away, my heart will always turn to beloved Binh Duong.”

Many topics attract young musicians

According to artist Pham Thanh Phong, “The award from the provincial Literature and Arts Association is a mark of my creative process and I have to try even harder.” Last year was also a successful year for artist Pham Thanh Phong.

Artist Pham Thanh Phong said he joined the Binh Duong Songwriting Club in 2016. An unforgettable mark in his artistic creation was the times he went to writing camps with his brothers and sisters in the Provincial Literature and Arts Association. Each time he went, he had the opportunity to exchange, learn and gain a lot of experience in composing from previous artists; receiving the characteristics of different regions, enriching the materials in composing modern music as well as traditional music.

Being a native of Binh Dinh, he followed his family to Dau Tieng, Binh Duong since he was young. For artist Pham Thanh Phong, Binh Duong is his second hometown with many unforgettable memories. That is also the emotion that evokes the range of emotions for him to compose about 20 songs about the land and people here, such as: Binh Duong - beautiful love; Sweet homeland song; Bach Dang - where love blossoms; Thu land - beautiful love for us...

2024 is a year that marks the career of musician Pham Thanh Phong in the field of composing songs and vọng cổ songs. In the past year, he wrote more than 20 musical works and vọng cổ songs to participate in a number of competitions. The award-winning works of musician Pham Thanh Phong in 2024 are also something that makes him proud, adding to his love for art so that he can compose. Works Tan Uyen - Thanh pho toi yêu (third prize in music); Rang rai thanh pho Tan Uyen (second prize in traditional singing); Phu Giao oi dep mai khuc tinh ca (third prize in traditional singing); Dep sao Phu Giao ta oi (second prize in music); Ca Mau - Ngay ay va hom nay (third prize in music) at the Literature and Arts awards in and outside the province.

He added that next year he will invest in some works to participate in songwriting campaigns. In addition, he focuses on finding and creating better sources of materials so that the compositions about Binh Duong will be of increasingly better quality and better, and hopes to be well received by the public.
