News from the Office of the People's Committee of Bac Lieu province on August 29 said that the Organizing Committee of the Vietnam - Bac Lieu Salt Festival 2024 (Salt Festival) officially decided to postpone the organization time to the first quarter of 2025.
Previously, this event was scheduled to take place in Bac Lieu from December 26 to 28, 2024.
The Salt Festival is organized with rich, diverse and attractive activities in both content and form, demonstrating the fine traditional culture to honor and preserve the Vietnamese salt industry, as well as promote, introduce and build the typical image and strengths of salt products and the salt industry in Bac Lieu and the whole country.
The Salt Festival is expected to have about 100 booths introducing and displaying salt products for food and health, salt for industry, salt and tourism, OCOP products and equipment, salt production and processing technology; investment promotion conference in the field of rural agriculture; workshop "Application of science and technology in salt production, adaptation to climate change".
In addition, within the framework of the Salt Festival, there are also sideline activities such as experience tours, field surveys of the salt fields of Bac Lieu province; the activity "Going to Bac Lieu to listen to traditional music"; a painting and photo contest about salt production activities... are also held.
Bac Lieu is a locality with a large salt production area in the country with nearly 1,500 hectares. In the 2023 crop year, the province's salt output reached over 27,000 tons, of which white salt spread on canvas was over 7,300 tons, the rest was traditional salt production. The average yield reached nearly 17 tons/ha (for traditional salt production) and over 37 tons/ha (for salt spread on canvas). The total number of salt-producing households in 2023 in the province was 767 households, with 1,520 workers.
Bac Lieu salt products were recognized as geographical indications by the Department of Intellectual Property (Ministry of Science and Technology) in 2013. At the end of 2020, the salt making profession of Bac Lieu province was recognized as a national intangible cultural heritage by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
