The 1,100km route will operate once a day, passing through Frankfurt South, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg stations, with a journey time of eight hours.
According to a VNA correspondent in Berlin, the German national railway company Deutsche Bahn (DB) officially put into operation a direct high-speed train line connecting Berlin and Paris from December 16, marking a new step forward in European rail transport.
The first ICE train departs from Gare de l'Est in Paris at 9:55 a.m. and is scheduled to arrive at Berlin Hauptbahnhof at 6:03 p.m.
The 1,100km route will operate once a day, passing through Frankfurt South, Karlsruhe and Strasbourg stations, with a journey time of eight hours.
Berlin Mayor Kai Wegner said the new railway line not only meets the growing travel demand but is also a good symbol of the friendship between Germany and France, the two most populous countries and the largest economies in the European Union.
DB is struggling to improve service quality after November figures showed just 60% of long-distance trains arrived on time.
The company aims to raise this rate to above 75% by 2027, receiving support from German Transport Minister Volker Wissing.
One-way fares for this journey range from 24.99 euros ($26.23) to more than 99 euros ($104), and may be higher depending on ticket class and demand./.
