Use wooden planks under the bridge pier to prevent damage from spreading.

Recently, on social networks, images of the Rac Bridge through Cam Trung commune, Cam Xuyen district (Ha Tinh) with damaged expansion joints appeared. In particular, underneath, the positions of the bridge beams were supported and wedged with wooden panels, causing many people to worry about safety when crossing the bridge.

On the morning of March 27, speaking to reporters, Mr. Nguyen Duc Dung - Deputy Director of Road Management Area II (Vietnam Road Administration) said that at the end of 2024, through patrolling the route, the unit recorded that the expansion joint of Rac bridge (the bridge unit on the right in the South - North direction) was damaged, so he deployed repair work.

However, upon closer inspection, the unit discovered that the concrete of the southern abutment of the bridge had broken girder plate.

Immediately after that, Road Management Area II reported to the Vietnam Road Administration and proposed an emergency repair project with a total cost of 2.8 billion VND. Currently, the project is in the stage of selecting a contractor. The repair is expected to be implemented in the near future.

While waiting for the repair project, the unit has placed wooden planks as a temporary measure to reduce the impact when the concrete part of the Rac bridge's girder plate breaks, avoiding widespread damage.

Mr. Dung added that when placing wooden planks, vehicles can still move normally. Placing wooden planks is for extra protection and not to worry too much about safety when vehicles move.

While waiting for repairs, the road management agency has also placed signs requiring vehicles to reduce speed when passing Rac Bridge.

It is known that Cau Rac has 2 units, of which the left bridge unit (South - North direction) has been put into operation since 2013 along with the investment project to upgrade and expand National Highway 1 from Ky Anh to the bypass of Ha Tinh City. The right bridge unit has been put into use many years before.
