Cultural Exchange and the Film Industry
For Mr. Marc E. Knapper, US Ambassador to Vietnam, the film industry is an important topic because his hometown is Los Angeles - home to the powerful "film capital" Hollywood. At the press conference of the Vietnam Cinema Tourism Promotion Program - New Destination of World Cinema, organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on September 16, in Hanoi, Mr. Marc E. Knapper said: "The US Embassy's participation in promoting Vietnam cinema tourism is completely natural because promoting exchanges between the people of the two countries is one of the important elements, playing a key role in the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries. There is no better way than when we can promote cultural exchanges through the film industry, so that we can tell the story of the Vietnamese people, of Vietnam to the world and to the US".

The Vietnam Tourism and Cinema Promotion Program in the US organized by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism is scheduled to take place from September 23 to 25 in San Francisco and Los Angeles (California). One activity in the program is a space to introduce the country, people and culture of Vietnam with about 100 typical, high-quality photos. This can also be considered a solo exhibition of photographer Tran Tuan Viet, a photographer who has won many awards for the best photo of the day in the photo community of the American magazine National Geographic (Nat Geo). Director of the National Tourism Administration Nguyen Trung Khanh said: "The photos do not focus on any locality but are all images that can build Vietnam into the most beautiful film set."
Another important activity of the program is the seminar introducing the potential of tourism and cinema of Vietnam, with an expected participation of about 400 - 500 delegates. “Screening here does not mean discrimination, screening here means suitability. Ms. Mai Thu Huyen is one of the famous actresses of her time and she is currently making films. In particular, she is promoting a number of films in the near future, signing contracts with filmmakers in the US,” said Deputy Minister Phong.
The promotion program also opens up opportunities for localities to introduce their own policies. Director Nguyen Trung Khanh revealed that each province and city will have its own policies to support film crews from Hollywood and around the world when they come to their locality.
Deputy Minister Ho An Phong also said: “This is the first time the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism has organized for Vietnamese tourism businesses and filmmakers to officially approach Hollywood. This time, businesses will be the main players, and they will have their own way of contributing.”
