Ho Chi Minh City aims to welcome 8.5 million international visitors and 45 million domestic visitors in 2025, with total tourism revenue estimated at VND260,000 billion. These figures are all up sharply compared to last year.
On December 30, the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism held a conference to review 2024 and set specific goals for 2025.
Ms. Nguyen Cam Tu, Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Tourism Promotion Center - said that in 2024, Ho Chi Minh City tourism welcomed 6 million international visitors, an increase of 20% over the previous year, reaching 100% of the 2024 plan. Domestic tourists are estimated at 38 million, an increase of 8.6% over the same period in 2023 and total tourism revenue is estimated at 190,000 billion VND, an increase of 18.8% over the same period in 2023.
With this high growth rate, Ho Chi Minh City tourism has set a target of welcoming 8.5 million international visitors in 2025, an increase of more than 40% and revenue also increasing by nearly 37%, towards the figure of 260,000 billion VND.
With this growth rate, the target of Ho Chi Minh City's tourism industry in 2025 is considered quite ambitious and challenging in the context that regional countries such as Thailand, Indonesia, and Malaysia all have strong strategies to attract international visitors.
According to Ms. Cam Tu, Ho Chi Minh City tourism has also proposed many measures to achieve this goal. These include proactively coordinating with units to organize annual events, aiming to develop Ho Chi Minh City into a destination for events, improving the effectiveness and efficiency of state management of tourism, creating conditions for businesses to compete and develop, continuing to position the city's tourism brand internationally...
Assessing the city's total tourism revenue, Director of the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism Nguyen Trung Khanh said that the figure of 190,000 billion is very impressive, demonstrating the strong recovery of the city's tourism market in particular and the country in general.
"Ho Chi Minh City has truly become an attractive destination for international and domestic tourists, contributing significantly to the overall achievements of Vietnam tourism in 2024 with 17.5 million international visitors, an increase of 39% over the same period in 2023, domestic tourists are estimated at 110 million; total revenue from tourists is about 840,000 billion VND, an increase of 24% over the same period in 2023", Mr. Khanh informed at the conference.
Vice Chairman of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee Nguyen Van Dung predicted that there will be many difficulties and challenges in 2025. Therefore, to achieve the goal, the city's leaders require the city's tourism to focus on improving the quality and diversifying tourism products, on the basis of maximizing the unique strengths of the districts and the whole city.
According to the report of the Ho Chi Minh City Department of Tourism, there are currently 1,533 businesses in the city that are qualified to operate tourism. Of these, there are 1,088 international travel businesses and 370 domestic travel businesses; 76 travel agencies; and 19 representative offices of foreign travel businesses in Vietnam.
