Even if I were a billionaire, I would still sing.

Many years after the hits, people talk about Phuong not only because the songs are the youth of a generation, but also because he is a successful and wealthy businessman.

He shared with Giao Thong Newspaper about his business story and the dark side of a singer who does business.

“If I don't sing, I'll go crazy.”

Singer Khanh Phuong: Even if I were a billionaire, I would still sing.

Singer Khanh Phuong performed in front of a large audience in early 2023.

It’s been a long time since singer Khanh Phuong’s fans saw him return with “Tomorrow, Someone Gets Married”. Why is it a cover, and not a new MV of his own?

This is a song that impressed me from the first time I heard it, especially the chorus with its unique and interesting use of words, with a literary quality. Actually, at this time, I was also trying to find a suitable song for myself but had no luck.

At this time, I am also cherishing the idea of holding a live show to celebrate 15 years of singing, although the business has taken a lot of time. I dare not promise whether the scale of the live show will be grand or not.

But there, I will take all of you on a time travel, back to the past from 2008, recalling youthful memories with Khanh Phuong's music. I think this will be the only solo concert in my singing career.

But there are rumors that Khanh Phuong is now a rich businessman and doesn't need to sing anymore?

Whether I am rich or poor has nothing to do with singing. Whether I am a street bum or a billionaire, I will still sing because that passion is endless, it is in my blood. The reason is simply because I am busier so I am picky about shows, I don't sing as much as before. But if I don't sing once a week, I will probably go crazy, I can't stand it (laughs)!

Talking about your youth, when you were young - "shaking" the charts with a series of hits, compared to now - a gentleman, a successful businessman, is your perspective on music different?

Certainly, when a person becomes an adult, his or her vision will be different. Business sometimes helps a little in artistic strategy. Good business people often have foresight, know how to use money, know how to use talent to realize their ideas. They also have precise, strategic investments.

While still learning about business, I realized that both jobs have a positive influence on each other. The important thing is that when doing business, I have new partners, creating advantages for myself in terms of customers and better output.

“My tens of billions of dong are nothing…”

Business will make you richer, right?

I think I'm normal now, not too rich (laughs). Actually, I just started doing business and started investing in stocks at the end of 2022.

I still have to learn a lot about business administration, human resource management and projects. I also need more experience in the market. So at present, Khanh Phuong is just a student trying to absorb and learn the most values as quickly as possible.

So, my tens of billions of dong are nothing compared to those who have hundreds of billions, thousands of billions of dong on the stock market. Money in stocks does not mean cash. Stocks cannot be sold immediately, it depends on market factors and liquidity. Now, only those who have cash in hand have real money.

While still “practicing”, he is already a shareholder owning 46.65% of SJC shares of Song Da 1.01 Company and is currently earning a profit of more than 12 billion VND. How many artists have changed direction and reaped sweet fruit as quickly as he has?

Actually, it's not 46.65%, now I only have more than 20%. It's normal for stocks to go up and down a few times. My purpose in investing in the current company is not to make a profit of 10 or 20 billion VND, but mainly to take control of the management.

Therefore, it is not important if the stock price increases by 60-80%. Before my group joined the council, the unit had many potential projects but they were stalled. We want to handle the backlog and complete these projects.

In the 2000s, I was one of the first people to enter the stock market in Vietnam.

At that time, only a few securities companies had opened in Vietnam. Every day, I was present at the securities company to gain priority to place orders before 7am.

At that time, there were only 2-3 types of stocks on the stock exchange. Almost anyone who bought stocks at that time would make a profit and would be successful.

Of course, I have had success, but I have also experienced humiliating failure. I understand the glory and failure of business and the downsides and risks in every business. At any time, you must be alert and not rest on your laurels.

It's also normal for artists to fail when they turn to business. Artists don't have business experience, they're used to thinking like artists.

Not many people are both artistic and business-minded, or they have good partners who can exploit that talent.

Do you find peace in your new job?

I still remember in 2008, after becoming famous with “Warm Wind Scarf”, I had a full schedule of performances, filming, and advertising. Almost every day I traveled hundreds of kilometers, singing in far away provinces.

That was the time when I was young, healthy and always eager for everything. Through that period of time that I call my “golden age”, I lived more slowly and had more choices.

Now, in addition to singing, I have a business and run a company. I live a fairly regular life, usually going to bed before 11pm and waking up at 8-9am. I also don't like hanging out in coffee shops or chatting, I usually stay home to exercise, jog, or swim. In my free time, I go out to eat with my family.

Passionate love is a luxury

Singer Khanh Phuong is still single at the age of 42.

You never mentioned women on your journey? How long has it been since you've been in love?

That's a tough question (laughs)! I'm a private person and don't like to share my personal life. In love and marriage, there must be fate and destiny.

Two people in love can love each other for 8-10 years and still be happy without needing a wedding, but there are couples who have registered their marriage for half a year and realize irreconcilable differences. If they cannot find a common voice, they will also drift apart.

To me, this life has many more important things than love, although I know love is the soul of life, but I am a hardened person in love and I still have other goals to strive for.

Now, to say I love passionately, intensely is a luxury. It's a disadvantage, not a good thing, but I find it hard to have such feelings.

Partly because of her artistic nature, love of traveling, and busy work, it is also a barrier for many girls.

But surely you will get married, you are 42 years old?

I am still trying and hope to announce the good news to the audience soon. I have been to many weddings, have many friends around, but I cannot help but feel sad when I am over 40 years old and still do not know when my wedding will be.

I long for a real wedding with someone who can go with me for the rest of my life, but I don't know when it will happen.

I don’t need my wife to be too beautiful, but she needs to have a kind heart and be filial to her parents and her husband’s parents. My partner must also be someone who understands and sympathizes with my work and is absolutely trustworthy in all areas. I think love or marriage is only relative, the important thing is harmony and sacrifice for each other.

Thank you!
