Announcement ceremony of the cooperation project between Grab Vietnam and the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province and the Living Fund
"Through environmental initiatives, Grab hopes to contribute to promoting the comprehensive and sustainable development of cities nationwide. This is also part of Grab's vision for the future in Vietnam," said Ms. Nguyen Thanh Anh.
Previously, since 2021, the company has accompanied the Forest Planting and Water Conservation Program. After more than 3 years, up to now, 20,000 trees have been successfully planted in the upstream forest and protective forest areas of Thuan Nam district, Ninh Thuan province, helping hundreds of thousands of people living nearby to be protected from wind and sand,... to confidently develop the economy.
These results were achieved thanks to user engagement through the app's "Carbon Neutral Contribution" feature.
By selecting the "Contribute to carbon neutrality" feature, Grab users can contribute to protecting a sustainable living environment.
From 2021, when choosing to participate in the "Carbon Neutral Contribution" feature, users can contribute VND 2,000 per GrabCar ride or VND 1,000 per GrabBike ride, GrabMart, GrabFood order, thereby offsetting carbon emissions from rides and orders.
All contributions will go directly to carbon neutral projects in Southeast Asia, including the Forest Retention Project in Ninh Thuan province.
Continuing the positive impact
Thanks to contributions in forest planting, protection and programs such as Forest Planting and Water Retention, in 2023, the forest cover rate in Ninh Thuan province reached 47.25%, an increase of 1.59% compared to 45.66% at the end of 2020.
In particular, in the face of extreme climate change, with average annual rainfall below 700mm and average annual temperature tending to increase by 0.03 degrees Celsius per decade, forest restoration and protection programs such as Forest Planting and Water Retention become even more important.
The forest is developed and regenerated, which means there will be grass in the dry season, underground water stored, bringing a new, more temperate climate for many plant species to grow, while also blocking wind and sand, protecting all the people on the other side of the forest.
Mr. Tran Ngoc Hieu, Deputy Director of the Department of Agriculture and Rural Development of Ninh Thuan province, shared: "We really appreciate Grab's cooperation in sponsoring and accompanying the locality, helping to increase resilience to climate change and bring sustainable values to the community."
Grab's participation in the Forest Reforestation Program is creating positive impacts for all parties.
Within the framework of cooperation for the Forest Planting and Water Conservation program, the company will also coordinate with the Ninh Thuan provincial government to organize training and support local people in forest conservation work.
These activities are expected to make practical contributions to promoting community strength in conservation work and ensuring project sustainability.
